Am I understanding that the MS 1106 is no longer approved?
Correct. It says that Chrysler has switched the type and viscosity. It's a CJ-4 type oil with 5W-40 viscosity.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

So if I follow the thread correctly, Rotella T-6 is now an approved oil, in 5W-40 form, AND the MS11106 spec has been changed, per FCA just this week. If someone could clarify that that would greatly appreciated. Have a oil change scheduled for 1300hrs today and if I could go to to the 5W40 this change it would be wonderful(my oil life monitor is @ 13%). Best regards to all.

That's what the word was. A TSB should be coming out soon, maybe even today. They come out on Fridays. If you push for it they will give it to you. Ask for them to use the dealer one connect to confirm it. All of the online manuals have been ipdated.

Thank you of this. I will voice verify with the dealer this afternoon, and push for the Rotella now residing in the boot. That and now being able to use filters from Mahle will effectively cut the oil change cost by at least 1/3.

Sweet! I use the MAHLE filter as well. No issues for the last 15000 miles.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

The web based diesel supplement on the Jeep home page (p.96, 2014 manual) has been updated. It does specifically call for 5W-40 synthetic oil, "MOPAR or Shell Rotella that meets FCA Material Standard MS-10902 and the API CJ-4 or ACEA E9/E7 or ACEA A3/B4 engine oil category is required".

You mean like the "staunch ridicule" you received in this thread from 2014, or were you referring to something else?

Blackstone UOA - Rotella T5

I have to say, this forum is probably the most civil one that I frequent.

No one—now or then—is opposed to improving engine longevity & wear. However, many of us are reasonably concerned with retaining our engine warranty, and thus we will ensure that any thread that recommends defying the manufacturer-required maintenance spec also contains adequate warning of the risks to warranty coverage. Note that the consideration for preserving the warranty is orthogonal to what's best for the engine, because we all know that what's best for the engine is to hack off the DPF, disable the EGR & PCV, and to use high-ash engine oil.

BTW, are you still adding non-manufacturer-spec, ash-producing substances to your oil fill (e.g. Liqui Moly MoS2), or are you using straight up Rotella with nothing extra?

I've spent more time in discussing the matter of ie CJ-4 vs. MS11106 on other sites and groups, people here may even frequent these places.

While you maybe concerned with your factory warranty, perfectly fine. I'm more concerned what happens after the warranty, or not even getting into the situation of needing a major repair. We've already been lead a stray by the manufacture once.

By the way, Shawn Capson (RIP aka Mopar Ecodiesel ) went 196,000 miles with his RAM 1500 before the DPF plugged to the point of causing engine codes and poor mpg. Which he was able to clean the DPF with additives and manual regens. He used CJ4 oil the whole time.

I've used MOS2 additive often, I prefer oil that already has MOS2 in the add pack (Rotella being one of them) and I have research to back the use of MOS2 (molybdenum Disulfide).

White paper from UIC Argonne can be read here:
https://anl.box.com/s/xzml5wwe2ey9htv0lbtrq329w7ubc8hf

You can do your research of the owners manual, i'll do mine my own research. Thank you.

...and Mobil1 ESP 5W30 (an MS-11106 approved oil) is another oil with nonzero moly. Based on our discussions and a perusal of UOA reports, I switched to the Mobil1 product. Mo values tend to register around 77.

I'll be happy to switch to Rotella T6 once I can confirm the spec change. I pulled the 2014 diesel supplement from Jeep.com today and it still references MS-11106. If someone has a direct link to an updated supplement, I'd appreciate that.

I bought some T6 today, because I'm optimistic and I'd love to run 5W40.

Fair enough. I'm sure you'll understand that your non-spec recommendations will come with a disclaimer regarding warranty/DPF ashing risks in order to protect others who stumble upon these posts without necessarily having a complete background on the stipulations of the manufacturer's specifications. The same would apply for other engine longevity improvement strategies like DPF delete and EGR/PCV blanking.

These warnings to others shouldn't be construed as "ridicule". Furthermore, the ancillary warning posts wouldn't even be necessary were you to choose to include your own acknowledgement of these risks within your posts.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Of course this happens just after changing the oil. At least now I have the 8th revision of the diesel supplement instead of the 2nd revision that was downloaded in early 2014.
