With 112,000 miles on the clock, I would say your motor is sufficiently broken in and if anything, switching to a 5W 40 oil you may actually see improvement. I have exactly half amount of mileage you do, and I made the switch last week Friday. I've only done 410 miles since the change, but I've seen no affects at all thus far.

My oil samples from Blackstone have all came back very good with Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W30 since break-in metals have been washed out. I drive 6,000 between changes with very good iron and copper readings.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

I contacted my service department concerning the new oil spec for the ECO. They ran my VIN (2015) and told me the TSB for the 2016 does not apply yet to my 2015.

I told them that it is already updated in the 2015 diesel supplement. That didn't matter to them.

They said for warranty issues to stay with the Pennzoil till the 2015 is included in the new TSB.

So I'm hoping that they will come out with the 2015 added before I have my oil changed in a couple of weeks. I'm not willing to take the chance on not having any problems if I did change to the Rotella. I'm sure the 15 will eventually be included.

FYI, my 2015 has about 5600 miles and I'm changing the oil early (1st oil change with oil life showing 42%), because I'm heading on vacation towing my TT and will put on approx. 4500 miles over 5 weeks. I will change it again when I return, hopefully with the Rotella.

Anyone have any inside info on when the 14-15 will be added?

Wireman. I sent your exact question to Chrysler. I also have a 2015. On the 2016 TSB they direct the dealer to take the new Jeeps on the lot for sale and dump the 5-30 and fill it with 5-40 Rotella. There has to be something they have seen that the Euro oil does not protect our engines, it just protects the emissions equipment. I heard the euro oil does not keep our internals lubricated. It would be nice for someone from FCA to tell us what is going on. Let us know if you see a TEB covering the 2014-2015's.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

If you look at the TSB there is also reflashing of the ECM & TCM, new sticker for the oil cap, not just changing to a new oil.

Kind of confusing why it's in the new edition of the Diesel Supplement but not included in the TSB.

I would really like to put in the Rotella but will wait a bit for any new info.

Finally had a chance to stop by the dealer where our 2014 GC Summit Ecodiesel is serviced and he looked at all the information, both the TSB and online updated manuals. He told me either oil was fine with him and if there were any issues he would make sure I was taken care of by the warranty. He was also wondering what was going on with the 2014 and 2015 model years not being included. They did not have any 2016's on the lot that required the oil change. I think our Ecodiesel is the only one they service when it comes to TSB's, RRT's, and recalls. Their head salesman informed me a few months back that they have never even sold a Jeep or Ram 1500 with the Ecodiesel in it. I ended up using the Pennzoil 5W-30 Ultra Euro L that I already had on the shelf from the cases I purchased on Amazon.

A company cannot void a warranty and blame it on an owner following their own officially published instructions.

I've been waiting for any excuse to use a better engine lubricant on my 2014 that would allow me to retain my warranty without any doubt. I have that now thanks to the published 8th edition diesel supplement and Rotella T6.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Road kill. Hope all is well with you. I'm also like the idea of adding Rotella T6 into my crankcase. I just had my oil changed with the Euro a week ago. If the TSB comes out I will probably have it changed with the shell. A quick question. I could only find Rev 7 for my 2015 Diesel Supplement, but it did call out the new standard and Rotella. Is yours rev 8 because you have a 2014? Also have you heard why they changed to the new standard? I wonder if they have been having engine wear issues.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Are there any pre-16 ecodiesel owners in Canada that have changed to Rotella? I contacted FCA Canada and a local dealership and neither of them would acknowledge that the change to Rotella is for any year other than 2016.

I've checked the online diesel supplements in Canada and they have not yet been updated. Does anyone have any idea when FCA Canada will officially change the spec for pre-2016 ecodiesels?

Before I open the pail of Rotella T6 that I have, I'd like to know that FCA Canada won't say "you used the wrong oil" as an excuse if I ever need engine warranty work.

Thanks...

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Well for me it will be a while before I change to 5W40 since I have a good stock of 5W30 left. I can use it for my BMW 335 so that is a good way to use it up but my engine likes the oil so not going to change until I am out.
I used Rotella for about 160000 miles on my Super Duty but not always T6 but dino at times since 15 qt changes at 5000 miles was mandatory...

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Short time lurker first post, thought I would share today's experience. I first learned of the TSB/RRT on the 21st of this month, called dealer took 25 minutes on the phone for him to confirm I was eligible for the RRT. My JGC was built 04/09/16. Made appointment for today to get oil changed, was asked to sign for the work, noticed a 172.11 (estimated) bill, I pointed out to the person at the service desk this was an RRT and he said I need to some checking. I said ok will wait in the waiting room let me know what you find. He came back and asked do you want the oil filter changed, I said how much and he said I will be right back. Why did I always think an oil filter was standard on an oil change. Any way after an 90 minutes my invoice was this.

1. Flashed ABS Module
2. Flashed TCM
3. Reprogrammed PCM and TCM control modules, changed engine oil
(refere to tsb 18 078 16 for oil requirement and reflash for tcm. Pcm
part number 68218066AA 5W40 oil)
4. Completed inspections
5. Replaced oil Filter
6. Sorry we don't have sticker for oil cap will call you when it gets in

Total 63.45 for the oil filter.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Forgot to mention I have the GDE hot tune, talked to them (Kieth) before doing this, he recommended if I was going to do the RRT let the dealer flash the ECM to remove the VIN from there list, and reinstall the tune. Nothing new here but thought it was worth mentioning.
