Common sense tells me there is an issue with the Penzoil Euro oil maybe not protecting our engines as it should? Sure wish someone from FCA would step up and tell us why.
I do recall the service advisor saying that the technician checked your VIN and the TSB applies to you. This kind of confirms that they are only putting Rotella in 2016 and not in every GC Diesel.

But it's the same engine. NOTHING has changed. They aren't applying the TSB to every vehicle because it costs them money. The Rotella is better for the engine and worse for the emissions equipment. It's vice versa with the other oils we've used before. They also want dealers to finish using their stock of 5W-30 before they switch over.

Re: Rotella T-6 in our diesel?

Just went to Advance Auto Supply. They have Rotella T6 for $21.99 plus Shell has an online coupon for $5 per gallon. You fill in an online form, upload a scan/photo of your receipt and Voila! you get the discount check in the mail. I bought 2 gallons and you must upload a scan/photo for each gallon, which requires its own coupon.

The TSB was just for the existing 2016's on dealer's lots, to have their oil changed before they are purchased.

The proof that they favor Rotella T6 5w40 going forward in the 2014 and 2015's as well is in the Jeep diesel supplements that they have updated to reflect this change in oil, too. Same thing for the Ram 2014 and 2015 1500 diesel supplements. http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/owners/manuals/

Hey,
I went to the online form and tried to fill it in and it wouldn't go pass the first screen. Not sure what the deal is there. I never got to the next page to even upload my receipt.

Thanks that worked. I ordered 2 gallons for my next oil change and I hope it works. I just arrived to Italy for a military move and finding the right oils and such are a little more difficult over here. I had to use Adblue to fill my DEF tank about 1 week after arrival. Stopped by my on base auto shop looking for DEF and they looked at me like I was stupid. Said they never heard of it. Had to take a stroll downtown and luckily I found the Adblue and it turned off the "engine will not start after XX miles" message and has not given me a error message on wrong type of DEF.

Get a GDE Hot Tune and you can use distilled water instead of DEF.

Yeah... about that. So, let's say you've put distilled water in your DEF tank. You take your Jeep to the dealer and they flash your PCM with the "shifter of doom" recall software, overwriting your GDE tune in the process. They start the Jeep and the now-enabled EPA code in the PCM sees the DEF is bad.

What happens?

Decline the shifter of recall doom like you're legally allowed to do. Or get the shifter of doom recall, then get the GDE Tune that incorporates the S27 malarkey.

Yes, but service writers are notorious for not executing instructions.

That really doesn't help if your Jeep is dead on the dealer's lot thanks to the EPA. Conversely, I guess you could just tell the dealer you are running a third party PCM tune and have them make a note of that in your warranty database record.

Because otherwise, how are you going to explain to the service tech that you just need a minute alone with your dead Jeep in order to swap out the PCM in order to have it ignore that the "DEF" in your tank is actually distilled water?

You don't. You just don't get it lol. I don't know if anyone else has tried it, but this recall is a voluntary recall as of right now. As in if you don't want it you don't have to get it. I explicitly said that I am not exhibiting any of the symptoms, I do not want it. I did not get it.
