Has anyone started using rotella t-6 in their engine? Hearing a lot of guys in other forums saying that they've switched to Rotella T-6 5W-40. Wondering if anyone here has and what their thoughts were.
If your Jeep is under warranty, IMHO, stick with the APPROVED FCA oils meeting spec MS-11106. In the U.S., I believe they are still only Mobil1 and Pennzoil low SAPS 5w30 oils. I haven't seen anything different on the MoPar site concerning any additions. This subject is discussed ad nauseum on this and several other threads on Jeepgarage and other forums.
Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 1 Liter VW 504 00 507.00 MS-11106
Pennzoil Platinum Euro L 5w30 with PurePlus Technology.
Remember, the operative word is APPROVED....not meets, not equivalent simply
MS-11106 specifications and APPROVED by FCA. I believe the Pennzoil is the factory fill on our VM motors.
Ok, so the question is : Do you believe anyone on this board (or any other forum) has more experience with the VM Motori engine requirements than the engineers that designed it???
Your money, your choice but, if you ever DO have a warranty issue, sticking with Mopar and OEM fluids during your warranty period will give FCA much less "wiggle room".
While Rotella is a great oil and I used it in my Superduty and my back up diesel gen set it is not low ash. That fact alone will cause regeneration issues when it plugs up a component.
Your ride your call but until I hit 120k miles I will use only factory approved products...

I had heard from people in the community, specifically the guys at GDE who used to work for Chrysler, that it would be getting the Chrysler certification soon. From what someone said they also are using it in their diesels. Just wondering if people had already started using it too. I've got another 7500 miles before my next oil change and I still have another round of Mobil-1 to burn through before I'm even ready, but a $40 oil change would be awesome ha-ha.
Well it currently does not meet spec. If they do get it then that changes the pricing game a lot since Rotella is a good price at Walmart.
As I said I ran it in my Superduty but that was a required 15 qt oil change every 5000 miles. I honestly never noticed any real difference regarding the type of oil for the 7.3 it just ran and ran and ran...
I'm considering using either T6 or Mobil 1 TDT now that I've got my tune and full delete. I've run the Mobil 1 in my Tdi jetta since I bought it and it's always run well...omitting the electrical problems. Still on the fence. I've got a case of the Mobil 1 ESP in the garage. I wonder if they'll take it back....
As of this week the spec was changed to CJ-4 / 5W40 Rotella and apparently theres a whole yard of ECODiesel Rams at FCA in Michigan awaiting a jiffy lube nightmear, all needing oil changes.
I for one have been touting the use of CJ-4 oils since inception on this forum, and received staunch ridicule. Now you're officially wrong, and i'm right.
I have to say, this forum is probably the most civil one that I frequent.
No one—now or then—is opposed to improving engine longevity & wear. However, many of us are reasonably concerned with retaining our engine warranty, and thus we will ensure that any thread that recommends defying the manufacturer-required maintenance spec also contains adequate warning of the risks to warranty coverage. Note that the consideration for preserving the warranty is orthogonal to what's best for the engine, because we all know that what's best for the engine is to hack off the DPF, disable the EGR & PCV, and to use high-ash engine oil.
BTW, are you still adding non-manufacturer-spec, ash-producing substances to your oil fill (e.g. Liqui Moly MoS2), or are you using straight up Rotella with nothing extra?
So if I follow the thread correctly, Rotella T-6 is now an approved oil, in 5W-40 form, AND the MS11106 spec has been changed, per FCA just this week. If someone could clarify that that would greatly appreciated. Have a oil change scheduled for 1300hrs today and if I could go to to the 5W40 this change it would be wonderful(my oil life monitor is @ 13%). Best regards to all.
That's what the word was. A TSB should be coming out soon, maybe even today. They come out on Fridays. If you push for it they will give it to you. Ask for them to use the dealer one connect to confirm it. All of the online manuals have been ipdated.
The web based diesel supplement on the Jeep home page (p.96, 2014 manual) has been updated. It does specifically call for 5W-40 synthetic oil, "MOPAR or Shell Rotella that meets FCA Material Standard MS-10902 and the API CJ-4 or ACEA E9/E7 or ACEA A3/B4 engine oil category is required".
Of course this happens just after changing the oil. At least now I have the 8th revision of the diesel supplement instead of the 2nd revision that was downloaded in early 2014.
I'll be happy to switch to Rotella T6 once I can confirm the spec change. I pulled the 2014 diesel supplement from Jeep.com today and it still references MS-11106. If someone has a direct link to an updated supplement, I'd appreciate that.

I had the Rotella dumped in on Friday, along with the Mahle Filter from Amazon. The Rotella currently has a $5/gallon rebate going on throughout the end of July, and with big box-mart have lowered their prices on oil to $19.86/gallon I was able to procure the 2 gallons of oil for less than $30(after rebate) + $11 for the Mahle filter. The dealer was able to confirm through their dealer 1 connect that FCA had indeed updated and approved the oil.
Hey brother, can you let us know if there are any changes with the 5W-40 oil. I'm referring to it runs even quieter, better fuel economy and any other changes that you notice, it would be much appreciated.
Although it is not found on the label of the bottles(a change that will be implemented over many months) the Rotella 5W40 T6 Full synthetic is approved by FCA for use in the EcoDiesel.
My Dad used to use Rotella T6 in his 1999.5 TDI Jetta and loved it. In the recent Mopar TSB 18-078-16, the Mopar p/n for Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 per quart is listed as 68001332PA.
Yes. The diesel supplements for previous years have already been changed and published on jeep.com. Use the T6... it's unequivocally better for the engine than the old MS-11106 spec oils.
Perhaps to, something else worth considering: a drastic falling out between bedfellows FCA and Pennzoil, directly to the point that unsold units are having the oil changed on the lot - with FCA specifically citing Rotella as the spec oil of preference.
So what's the prevailing wisdom on changing viscosities when you're 112,000 miles into the life of your engine? Have been a faithful Pennzoil user this whole time and the last 8 quarts I purchased (with the Pennzoil rebate) were $6/quart.
Should I have major concerns about switching to a 5W40 with this many miles or is this such a good move for the health of the engine that I should be thinking "better late than never"?
My oil samples from Blackstone have all came back very good with Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W30 since break-in metals have been washed out. I drive 6,000 between changes with very good iron and copper readings.
I contacted my service department concerning the new oil spec for the ECO. They ran my VIN (2015) and told me the TSB for the 2016 does not apply yet to my 2015.
I told them that it is already updated in the 2015 diesel supplement. That didn't matter to them.
They said for warranty issues to stay with the Pennzoil till the 2015 is included in the new TSB.
So I'm hoping that they will come out with the 2015 added before I have my oil changed in a couple of weeks. I'm not willing to take the chance on not having any problems if I did change to the Rotella. I'm sure the 15 will eventually be included.
FYI, my 2015 has about 5600 miles and I'm changing the oil early (1st oil change with oil life showing 42%), because I'm heading on vacation towing my TT and will put on approx. 4500 miles over 5 weeks. I will change it again when I return, hopefully with the Rotella.
Anyone have any inside info on when the 14-15 will be added?
Wireman. I sent your exact question to Chrysler. I also have a 2015. On the 2016 TSB they direct the dealer to take the new Jeeps on the lot for sale and dump the 5-30 and fill it with 5-40 Rotella. There has to be something they have seen that the Euro oil does not protect our engines, it just protects the emissions equipment. I heard the euro oil does not keep our internals lubricated. It would be nice for someone from FCA to tell us what is going on. Let us know if you see a TEB covering the 2014-2015's.
