Scanguage2 XGuage codes for EGT

Finally...working EGT xguage codes for the Scangauge2 display. This is the pre-DPF EGT temperature that reacts immediately to load. Its critical to monitor for towing and highly tuned diesels.

Re: Scanguage2 XGuage codes for EGT

Anyone with a Scangauge2 care to guess what temperature sensor the below code goes to? This returns a slower reacting temperature F and is generally lower than what we believe to be the CAT temp. I wonder if the CAT temp, which is 50F+ higher and responds faster, is really the DPF temp?

Re: Scanguage2 XGuage codes for EGT

I'm seeing 1300+F at WOT and 800-950F at cruise without a tuner. This is 150-200F hotter than my tuned Powerstroke. Seems high to me....hope I don't have a plugged DPF!

I'll post a precise EGT at 65 and WOT as soon as I can run on flat ground.

Re: Scanguage2 XGuage codes for EGT

That's close to what I see on a tuned, 05 2.8L CR in high humidity conditions in the 90's. Low humidty drops cruising temps almost 100*F. These VM's seem to run a bit hotter than the Cummins/Duramax/PS truck engines.

Re: Scanguage2 XGuage codes for EGT

65 mph @ 1.1 psi boost = 725F
80 mph @ 1.8 psi boost = 810F

No WOT test for now...but I've seen 1300+ in seconds at WOT passing.

What are you monitoring it for? What level should the temp stay below?

The post seems like you aren't sure about the last two. Have you since confirmed that what you call "EGT 3" is the DPF?

1. I watch pre-turbo EGT because I am running a tuner and elevated EGT can anneal valves and turbo internals. I like knowing what is going on as a baseline in case anything changes.

2. Without knowing the sensor locations, I can only guess which readings correspond. Logically, the temperature sensor that rises fastest under load is closest to the motor. That would be pre-DPF (not sure if its pre or post turbo). The DPF sensor will rise and hold steady at 1150-1250 F during regen so I'm pretty confident there. The CAT sensor is the coldest and slowest to change.

I use the "Scangage II" to monitor critical ODB2 stats in realtime. It isn't a diagnostic scanner but does display and reset fault codes. The Android app "Torque" coupled with a Bluetooth to ODB2 adapter is an excellent inexpensive tool as well. Cost $30 for the whole setup.

Re: Scanguage2 XGuage codes for EGT

I bought the OBDII adapter you recommended previously (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B005NL...A2VZTJP6N0Z6QL) and I downloaded Torque. Before plugging in the adapter I set Torque to default to the ISO15765-4CAN 11bit/500kb protocol, and the car never freaked out. (Apparently not limiting the app to that protocol can cause the car to throw errors and MILs)

I'm sure there are many other adapters, but after a few weeks of leaving it connected 24/7, I have not experienced any problems with the adapter or with the car reacting to the scanner or not going to sleep properly, etc.
