Re: Service DEF - See Dealer

How has someone not made a skid plate for this issue. I just bought one on sat and naturally i will look for as many things as possible whether its an upgrade or a bad design. In this case, obviously a bad design.

Been under the gc for the past 2 hrs. Ill go to the shop on friday and see what i can make for us. Should b real easy.

Let us know what you come up with. I've been under mine looking at options. Here are some design considerations:

1. Heat management. The DPF funnels its heat directly through the injector area. Enclosing that area could lead to premature failure. A heavily perfed plate would be best but not too open since water pressure Has been shown to damage the injector. Perhaps vents could be cut to water from a forward direction (like when you splash through deep water).

2. DEF line and signal cable routing. It crosses under the frame. It is slightly recessed where it crosses on mine. A plate could pinch the line.

3. Attachment points are challenging. I'm at a loss here. The center skid plate on ORA2 equiped GCs has holes but it is pretty far back.

We need a good design and I, for one, would be grateful for any input and collaborative effort anyone with skills can offer.

Re: Service DEF - See Dealer

I got you. Trust me i read what everyone has stated and will take that into consideration for sure. Im actually thinkn about creating a heat shield for the skid plate that will be between the dpf and the injector itself. Seems to me that even with out a skid plate that the heat could make the plastic on injector become brittle and anything that hits it with any force can snap it off..... Including water. But yea ill hav to lay under there some more on friday at the shop.

The best way to do this is to get the "solid works " file for the 2014 JGC and create it from there that way all the specs are on point and u save material. Ill hav to get that later this year. For now ill just prototype it and go from there.

Re: Service DEF - See Dealer

OMG. I live in Colorado, we had snow yesterday and this morning. Driving about 40 MPH on a paved highway, hit about 2" of wet snow, snapped off the DEF injector. That is complete, COMPLETE bullsh*t. I'm glad people are coming up with their own fixes, but this is something Jeep should fix. I smell a class action lawsuit coming up, and if they don't do something proactively, they DESERVE it. This is SHAMEFUL. I love the GC and the way it drives, but really, that design is SHAMEFUL and INEXCUSABLE. I plan to review the "lemon law" booklet I got with my GC. I have 6500 miles on my GC, purchased it on Dec. 31, 2013. At this rate, I'll have snapped the thing off three times in one year with just ON road driving! Come on, Jeep, How disappointing. Step up and do the right thing.

Re: Service DEF - See Dealer

I emailed Jeep customer care late last week. They responded that their research revealed no "widespread" problem and that they did not intend to do anything. If we need Jeep to do something, everybody who has a problem or concern ought to be letting Jeep know directly so the problem becomes "widespread" for them. Talking class action lawsuit is silly. It'll take years to resolve and is low priority for the courts because nobody's dying. And at the end, you'll get a check for $10 in 2017 and the attorneys will get everything else.

Re: Service DEF - See Dealer

For those that have experienced the "DEF Snap", how has it been resolved? Was it covered under warranty?

Mine was covered 100%. It was just an inconvenience. I had to drive a Dodge Dart loaner for 4 days while the dealer waited for the part. I think the previous user of the Dart had a cold because they left their dirty tissues and Halls wrappers in the cup holders. Now I have a cold. What a piece of junk. I had that thing red lined and it was barely doing 40. Did I mention I have a cold.
