Good point. I had my DEF pump replaced first, then injector, then Cat. The DEF flow test is very important. It determines that all is well with the DEF injection system (except "bad" DEF).

Another clogged DEF system. They should perform a flow test to confirm. A Cat failure doesn't trigger the no start countdown in my experience.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

I took my vehicle in to have the DEF injector replaced (supposedly to fix my P20EE). After about 1 hour 45 min they discovered that they had ordered a fuel injector instead of DEF injector. Nice waste of a morning. More waiting. At least the error is gone.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

Has anybody actually had their jeep count down to zero or far enough to take it in? Mine on a couple of occasions started at 200 and counted down to 185ish before going away and the CEL disappearing. So far I haven't seen a real fix to this issue so I'm trying to avoid the dealership as long as possible...

Mine started a countdown then quite counting...then again and I drove it there with maybe 75 miles left before the no restart. The Catalytic Converter is the real cause in many of these cases.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

There might finally be a fix for all this nonsense. TSB released today for replacing the Cat, checking for DEF injector leaks and DEF contamination.

Finally! Btw...a few points from reading the TSB:

1. DEF Contamination - it appears the repair is warranty. Some dealers have denied warranty out of ignorance. Contamination causes pump wear and injector clogging.

2. It appears that the 4WD and 2WD have different Cats. Interesting.

3. The latest PCM flash is required which implies that part of the issue may have been SCR control related. Too much or too little DEF and before the system is at temperature can damage the Cat.

I've had everything done in the TSB except the new PCU flash and redesigned Cat wasn't out. That was 7500 miles ago.

Everything I've been saying about defective Cats, DEF contamination, and chrystalization are now confirmed.

The whole SCR failure sequence can be trigger by DEF contamination....

http://www.jeepgarage.org/f222/def-contamination-81685.html#post1118120

But apparently the original Cat can fail due to its design. The DEF injector clogging and messages are all related. Contamination is the only thing that can kill the Cat and cause the DEF pump and/or Injector to clog.

That may be me. I have a service appointment Monday. Was going to start a star case and they wanted the vehicle in to see the code again. I'll have them check this tsb.

I would also be careful with any diesel additives as some them may not be designed to work with SCRs. I have 23,000 miles on my GC and I have used Peak brand from AutoZone without any issues. The 2-gal container comes with its own vented nozzle, is easy to use, drip free, and disposable. I take a picture of the date code where it stays on my phone until I purchase again. Saving a few dimes at the truck stop is not worth the risk in my opinion. I am glad to hear that those having issues are seeing some solutions finally.
