Haha, I drew exactly the opposite conclusion: I didn't want to risk obtaining improperly stored/out of date DEF from an auto parts store or Walmart, and instead chose DEF from a high-volume truck stop where I could be reasonably assured that the DEF was fresh and hadn't been abused.

My guess is that we are both overthinking this, and it probably doesn't matter that much either way.

Agreed...

The only time I tried a truck stop, which is 20 miles out of my way, I was treated like "small" nuisance in the truck lane. So, I prefer to search for the best DEF lot date available and fill carefully in my own garage. There are enough diesel vehicles in metro Houston to make the DEF supply turnover rather frequently.

Notice that the TSB calls for a replacement Cat part# 68243268-AB and the old Cat part # ends in -AA. That is why there is a huge backorder. The new Cat is the redesigned unit.

I checked my repair ticket to verify that the old part# isn't the same as the one spec'd in the TSB. I have a new "old" -AA Cat in mine now.

Had my Jeep in yesterday to have TSB 18-045-14 performed. Naturally the catalyst needed to be ordered. I was shocked when the service advisor called and said the catalyst would be in and installed today. Happily shocked. Just received the call that the catalyst is now backordered with no ETA of availability. That was more what I was expecting with my own estimates of how many have catalysts going or gone bad.

Good to know mazster, do you have a rental or is your jeep drivable?

Had a rental yesterday until lunch today. I have not yet gotten the "will not start" message. Yet. So I'm drivable for now and hopefully won't have any issues.

Besides the catalyst the dealer ordered the DEF injector and gasket.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

I got this message on my drive back from running errands. I have to say that it has added a level of annoyance/frustration with this vehicle. The information in this thread including the references to the various TSBs is appreciated. I've had the earlier version of the oil life TSB applied, but it looks as if I'll have to get the update done along with the application of the other ones which were linked to. Between these, two recall notices, a shock TSB and other fixes, it looks like my jeep will be out of action for a while. I'm disappointed given how few problems I had with the 2010 WK I used to own. Thanks again to all of those who posted the relevant info regarding this.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

I dropped my Jeep off for 30k mile service about 10 days ago. They addressed the recalled items, the DEF line, and RRTs. They didn't refill my DEF tank, so I stopped by Fleet Farm for the BlueDEF. I was having no issues at that time.

Then on Thanksgiving, on my way from Central IL to mid-Michigan, the Service DEF system light came on instructing me to have it serviced soon. No countdown timer. I drove it another 200 miles. The light disappeared spontaneously Sunday morning after sitting overnight. If it lights up again, I will have it looked at.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

Had another "will not start" message. Started countdown at 150 miles. Message disappeared at 88 miles. Good thing because we were on a trip and I was in no mood to deal with it.

I had the catalyst and injector replaced peer the TSB last week Thursday. All was right in the world until Saturday when the check engine light came back on. To say I was spitting mad is an understatement. I didn't have my code reader to confirm what code was triggered and two starts later the check engine light went out and has not returned. It's been done since and maybe the mileage has come up a little. Though it's hard to say for sure as the temperature is way Warner then it should be.

I saw that and it came out the day after I had the catalyst replaced. Awesome timing for me.
