Service Def - See Dealer

At 6,800 miles I had my 2014 GC in for an oil change (with 10% remaining oil life), and the dealer applied RRT 14-028 (to address rapid oil indicator depletion and incorrect DTCs, though I had not been experiencing either issue), and RRT 14-050 (not sure what this was supposed to fix, but I wasn't aware of a problem).

After about 130 miles of mostly freeway driving, I got the message "Service Def System - See Dealer, engine will not restart in 220 miles" and the Check Engine light went on. The dealer found DTC P20E9 - Reductant Pressure Too High (ironically, one of the supposed false codes I never had seen before), so they reset the code, performed a soot regeneration, drove the car for 30 miles and proclaimed normal operation.

After another 120 miles or so, I got the message again, but only 115 miles until the engine will not restart. Very frustrating.

I suspect that they may not have performed the last two steps after doing the reflash for RRT 14-028:
1. Clear all DTCs, and
2. Perform a Reset of SCR Long Term Adaptation Factor

But before I get back to the dealer, I thought I'd check to see if others have had a similar experience or have other ideas. Specifically, can any of the OBD scan tools be used to "perform a reset of SCR long term adaptation factor?"

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

Might confirm you are on revision 18-018-14 REV. C of 14-028 RRT. I too have been having problems with codes P2BA9 (insufficient regent quality) - 3,000 miles ago and just recently P20EE - NOx Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1). Revision 18-018-14 REV. C specifically address the P20EE ** to address the possibility of Urea over dosing. **

I too started encountering these problems with 18-018-14 REV. B to resolve the oil depletion rate and when I get my oil change at the dealership I am going to upgrade to 18-018-14 REV. C

So far I have been able to just clear the error codes and drive it at highway speeds for a period of time to make sure the SCR system gets hot enough to clean off the injectors and sensors etc. I am thinking when my wife drives it on short trips the system is over dosing the SCR with UREA and crystals are possibly forming.

Clearing codes requires an ODB2 interface (scanner or smartphone app). Many of us use the Android app "Torque" with a generic Bluetooth to ODB2 adapter. The Scanguage2 is a ODB2 display that can also reset codes.

If you have an iPhone or iPad...I read to get the WIFI version as the bluetooth does not work with it...don't know if that is true or not but I bought the wifi version to be safe.

To clear the codes the car can not be running and the switch must be in Run position. So basically you press the start button without depressing the brake until it shows RUN.

Search ODB II ELM327 on Amazon as there are many sellers...I try to buy products that actually ship from Amazon's warehouse.

WIFI Version:
Amazon.com: MOACC Elm327 WIFI Wirless OBD2 OBD-II Car Diagnostic Reader Scanner Scan Tool Protocols for Iphone iPad iOS PC Android Torque: Automotive

Bluetooth Version:

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

I have Revision 18-018-14 REV. C.
I took my JFC back in and the dealer initiated a Star case. Chrysler told them to check for a kinked DEF line. They checked and the line was kinked. Part should arrive tomorrow.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

Man, i don't know what is going on w Service at Chrysler. I too got the quick oil change indication.........on my 2014 GC Diesel and when i took it in today after at least 8 calls to get a service appt. they told me i need two RRT updates........one is this infamous 14-028 update. After reading the posts i am concerned about what the future may hold. Did you or anyone get notified as to this being needed? I did not. The other is RRT 14-050...........and the guy had no clue as to what that was going to "fix"???? If the Service managers don't know should they be applying them????? What the heck? They said two hours and its been 3 now. I had to call them and the SM is out and i could not even find out if the job was done???? No car and no one to talk to..............IS this the service dept? Do we know what SERVICE is?

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

We have all read a lot about the infamous regen problem that will give an EVIC message saying the car must be driven to the dealer within 200 miles or the car will not start. Like others, I am worried about getting that message when I am more than 200 miles from a dealer. So I have two questions: first, can the Scangauge2 be used to clear that message, like it will clear other error codes, and could the car then be driven further than 200 miles? Second, although the car won't start after 200 miles, would it actually shut down at 200 miles, or would it continue running after 200 miles if you never turned it off until you got to the dealer?

FYI, regen has nothing to do with the SCR/DEF system; that's the DPF.

I don't think it can be reset until the system is working again. The vehicle won't shut down at 200 miles, it just won't restart.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

I got mine from the shop last Friday and the P20EE code came back in 30 miles. I reset it and it came back again in another 30 miles. I am on 18-018 Rev A but this was done 50 days ago when it first went in the shop.

The TSBS and a new DEF pump where installed on the first repair attempt. If the pump went bad, would that allow DEF chrystals to clog the injector? My understanding is that DEF is used to clean crystals so a dry DEF line and injector could get plugged due to a pinched line or bad pump.

I drove 300 miles with the CEL light on and no shutdown message. I wonder if Jeep has reprogrammed the 200 mile shutdown somehow. It would be great if they would TAKE IT OUT completely and make it go into limp mode every 5 th restart.

I am back at the dealer right now and have requested them to apply ALL updates and check for a kinked DEF line. I plan to drive it all week and see if the TSBs help.

Re: Service Def - See Dealer

I'm on the road again. The tech stated that he believes Jeep eliminated the 200 mile shutdown. I'm going to drive it and see. I made it 300 miles with a CEL on 18-018 Rev C. We'll see what happens.

Edit: within 30 miles I got the P20EE CEL again. Back to the dealer tomorrow a.m.

Time to get a bed in the GM's office.

Feeling bad for you. You sure you're not overwhelmed by this car yet? Such a bummer of luck.
