Exclamation Service DEF System CEL - Jeep wont start now

Hello,

So I went pass the 200 miles that the car allows you to before you have to visit the dealership and my JGC will not start now. I tried unplugging the battery to reset the code but nothing. Is there anyway to bypass this so that I can start it and drive it to the dealership? The CEL originally came on with a message that read Service DEF System, car will not start in 200 miles.

Just pour some def in it. You can get it from practically any auto store.

Re: Service DEF System CEL - Jeep wont start now

DEF ain't gonna do at this point in time if there was a "Service DEF System" EVIC message.

This is what the Ram ecodiesel folks do:

You would have to jump the relay every time you restart.

I guess this is a warning for all of us not to let the DEF get too low or if that message comes up, get to the dealer. Sorry for your troubles.

The OP's issue most likely has nothing to do with being "low" on DEF. There's an issue with the system that requires a trip to the dealer. I never add any DEF until I get the warning message and at that point I add 2.5 gallons and wait until I see the next warning.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I agree with you that the message causes no issues and by you using that message to top off keeps your DEF fresh. I think his issue was going past the 200 miles down to zero. I thought in our owners manual it said as you go past 200 miles left you will get progressive warnings until the unit eventually shuts down and you can't start it anymore. This was Mandated by the Feds that forced Jeep into this Urea system. Basically if you are out of DEF your not going to be able to drive it for emissions reasons.

Re: Service DEF System CEL - Jeep wont start now

Isn't "service DEF system" and "Low fluid warning" 2 different things?

I would think service DEF sys would be if there is an injector/injection malfunction...

I understand what you are saying, but the PP stated "So I went pass the 200 miles that the car allows you to before you have to visit the dealership" That would be the service DEF message not the low DEF message. The procedure I posted will get you an emergency start.
