Stanadyne and capless fillers

I've been having some serious fun adding miles to my new rig since I picked it up on Saturday - this thing is amazing! In fact, I've added so many miles that now it's time to fill up the tank to get ready for a Thanksgiving road trip. That's where my quandary comes in:

Is the neck on a 8oz bottle of Stanadyne long enough to open the 2nd flapper valve in the cap-less fuel filler? I'm guessing not. That means I'll need to use the handy-dandy funnel that we have in the trunk, which is a bummer since it'll have to be cleaned after each use. Has anyone figured out some genius way around this? I wonder if anyone makes refillable bottles that are long enough to open the filler. I'd happily go back to buying 1 gallon jugs that I could dole out to smaller bottles.

Let me know if you have any great ideas!

Re: Stanadyne and capless fillers

Ha ha - well clearly I'm the only person who can rat-hole on a topic this obscure, but I thought I'd put my findings in here for the next anal retentive owner.

The 16oz bottle of Stanadyne, while longer, is still not long enough. I got it all over the place. You can buy a bottle extender just for this purpose, but I suppose I'll just use the OEM one that seems to work just fine.

Re: Stanadyne and capless fillers

I used gallon jug of Standyne and I used a long neck funnel like for a transmission which easily goes down the filler necks. I has to just keep the funnel in a little plastic container so cleaning each time was not needed. I had a premeasured plastic container that I filled and dumped into the funnel when filling.
I am sure others have my useful solutions...

Re: Stanadyne and capless fillers

I was just bout to research into this.

I am going to buy a extra filler nozzle thing just to keep in the garage for this purpose. This way I don't have to spend the time cleaning and can keep it in a baggy or the like

Re: Stanadyne and capless fillers

Why not put the little white funnel in a zip-lock bag after each use?

Isn't there a small funnel located in the spare wheel well for this?

There is but I want to just leave that one alone.

Having looked at my fuel gauge over the last 100 miles (almost down to 7/8) I am just going to get another to take with me when I fill up and leave it in the garage with my additive other than that. It looks like I will have plenty of time to prepare for it at the rate I am using diesel currently.

Re: Stanadyne and capless fillers

Happy I found this thread. I just bought some additive to keep in case I get stuck with summer blend in the winter but I didn't know I won't be able to just pour it in...

Using the funnel that's in the car sucks as the stuff is smelly so I'm looking at having to wash it at the gas station everytime I use it...

Re: Stanadyne and capless fillers

I picked up a spare funnel from the dealer and keep a hand full of shop towels, my additive, and the funnel in a gallon zip lock bag in the spare tire storage.
