Well, it came back. Twice on the freeway, and tonight just cruising around the neighborhood looking at Christmas lights.

Goes back in on Monday.

A couple of the glow plugs are seized in the old heads, so they have to order new glow plugs. Problem is that they are on national back order. They have a Director at Jeep looking for replacement. I am supposedly on the top of the list to get them since my engine is torn apart. Hoping they are able to pull a rabbit out of a hat, otherwise I am stuck in the loaner Jeep Patriot till the parts come in. Jeep pays for a 12 hour job, but the mechanic says it is more like 16-20 hours of labor. They have to drop the transmission to get to the thing.
So far, this it the third major repair. The first was the upper oil gasket - 16 hour job for repair. Second was the Cat replacement, and now the heads. The mechanic is becoming intimate with my Jeep.
Even though I have had these issues, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I love the Ecodiesel !!! Best ride I have ever owned. Glad for the extended warranty.

Now the update. Still in the shop - almost 3 weeks. Replaced the heads, had to get the glow plugs from across the county, but got them in, but broke the turbo while re-installing. Ordered and waited for the new turbo. Got it installed. Running well, but not has a fuel leak. Part should be here on Tuesday.
Called Chrysler last to complain, and requested that we start the process for a buy back. 6% of the time I have owned this jeep, it has been in the shop. I love the jeep ---- when I can actually drive it. Had I had to pay out of pocket for all the repairs since I have owned it, the costs would be well over $15,000 now. Will update as I know more. Have a case number, and they should contact me later next week.

Sucks man. Interested to see how this will play out for you.

I'll say that I love the car...so I'm not keen on getting rid of it. I've also got MaxCare to 120k...so here's hoping I'll be semi-taken care of for most of the time.

Re: Studder/Skipping?

And now they're claiming bad gas.

Called Chrysler to open a case and got threatened by their "customer service" person. Said if I didn't get the car fixed (to the tune of $600), they'd void all future related warranty claims.

Threatened. That's awesome customer service.

I asked to speak with the person's manager and was told there's a 24 hour waiting period. No problem.

Bad gas? Sounds like a cop out.

With the TSB describing the head problem and your issue matching perfectly, I don't see why they're having trouble.

If you had bad fuel (I'm presuming they know the difference between gasoline and diesel), you'd be throwing codes and you'd have problems at more than just certain RPM ranges in certain specific conditions.

You're not ever going to get the proper service from that dealership now that they've gone down that road.

Do you have the option to try a different dealer?

Re: Studder/Skipping?

sounds like something to be mindful of now. I thought i experienced something similar couple of days ago when i was coming up to a turn but it hasnt done it since.
I have an appt with my dealer next wed to have the 15-098 RRT flashed maybe that will help but with this jeep having 32K miles i'm sure what ever accumulation of soot thats in the heads is too far gone by now.

Do they clean out the intakes when thy replace the heads?

The more i come across these types of issues the more i just sit back and shake my head thinking "what the hell did i get myself into" Good thing for extended warranty.

I figured bad gas is a cop out also. They showed me the gas from "my" tank and gas for another diesel and they certainly looked different (one more yellow, the other yellowish/clear).

As for codes and errors - none. Not ever. When I pointed that out to them (specifically that their own TSB says no error codes needed for the issue), they told me that Chrysler has a lot more information, and has specific codes that aren't listed on that TSB, which is why they're not replacing the heads.

I also figured by calling Chrysler to get the ball rolling on a case, it'd be a good start. Apparently not, with the way they're reacting to me.

Still waiting a call back from "management."

Also, if the issue comes up again, I will be taking it to another dealer. There's plenty around.

Honestly, I'd never felt that way until now.

Just looked at blue book value - 1.5 years of ownership with only 15k miles, and it's already down 35% depreciation? KBB has a range from $32k - $35k. I can't even get rid of it and expect to get a decent return.

This is the reason why I've stayed away from american cars. I figured i'd give the jeep a try but now i'm starting to regret it.

Re: Studder/Skipping?

I have also experienced the studder in the past and know the repair is just a matter of time. Since my dealer hasn't done any of the repairs yet, I'll hold out a while.

Regarding the Honda comment, I could never get the same grin or smile I receive from my GJC Diesel. Short of some of these problems, I love this vehicle.
