Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate
First off, I'm glad I have this skid plate.
However, I know for certain that when I get to hell my punishment will be to install this plate for all eternity.
Today I spent about two hours fighting to rework the strut attachment. My plate originally shipped with a #8 speed nut, which will not thread correctly on the 8-32 screw in the kit. I only deduced this after I had completed the original installation (never having dealt with speed nuts before, I presumed they were always a cast-iron bitch to thread, requiring vise grips and so forth). The front strut attachment was always loose, and it bothered me given that the rear screw on this plate had eventually worked loose due to lack of a threadlocker and had caused horrible vibratory noises.
Today, I finally got around to replacing the loose front screw that was cross-threaded onto the improper #8 speed nut on the strut. After much travail with the 8-32 speed nut, I discovered that the reason I couldn't fully tighten the screw on this speed nut is that the screw that shipped is 3/4" long—too long to thread fully without hitting the back of the strut. Therefore, as it stands, there is no way to tighten this screw to the point that the washer isn't loose and able to rattle.
I could probably pad out the length by adding a thicker washer or two, but I'm done dealing with my personal hell for at least the next six months (or death, whichever comes first) unless the plate starts to make horrible noises again.
