Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

First off, I'm glad I have this skid plate.

However, I know for certain that when I get to hell my punishment will be to install this plate for all eternity.

Today I spent about two hours fighting to rework the strut attachment. My plate originally shipped with a #8 speed nut, which will not thread correctly on the 8-32 screw in the kit. I only deduced this after I had completed the original installation (never having dealt with speed nuts before, I presumed they were always a cast-iron bitch to thread, requiring vise grips and so forth). The front strut attachment was always loose, and it bothered me given that the rear screw on this plate had eventually worked loose due to lack of a threadlocker and had caused horrible vibratory noises.

Today, I finally got around to replacing the loose front screw that was cross-threaded onto the improper #8 speed nut on the strut. After much travail with the 8-32 speed nut, I discovered that the reason I couldn't fully tighten the screw on this speed nut is that the screw that shipped is 3/4" long—too long to thread fully without hitting the back of the strut. Therefore, as it stands, there is no way to tighten this screw to the point that the washer isn't loose and able to rattle.

I could probably pad out the length by adding a thicker washer or two, but I'm done dealing with my personal hell for at least the next six months (or death, whichever comes first) unless the plate starts to make horrible noises again.

So sorry about the trouble from the plate. Send me an email to jeepecodieselfix@gmail.com and i will send you some new hardware that will work better.

I'm guessing you are one of the early purchaser of this plate? If so , yes a lot had some issues and a lot were fine. Let me see if I can make it up to you with the new hardware. I'm sure it will tighten everything up.

Hey Dom, I'm happy to have the plate, and I appreciate you taking the initiative to make the only protection available for Chrysler's design flaw.

I feel confident that it will protect my injector from damage, and even with the difficulties I encountered I still recommend it, without reservation, for all owners.

My plate is from the very first run, and I believe my experiences are not representative of what others have encountered. I would buy it again, no question.

Hi Dom..... I ordered the plate 2 days ago. I'm local in so cal so any idea when I might see the brown truck show up with it? Headed up to mammoth after Christmas and thought it would be wise to have before I hit the snow. Thanx.

Bryin ( project manager in charge of this project) picked them up either Friday or today. I honestly don't know right now as I have been super busy with other biz's. But I'm guessing it will at the earliest ship out tomorrow or Wednesday if that's even possible for ups lol.

As far as your trip. Worse case scenario since you are close. If the plate for some reason doesn't get over there before you need to leave let me know asap and I'll have you come down to my house in Corona and I can install a prototype to keep you protect for the time being. Just bring it back

Looks like my plate is on the big brown truck for delivery today. Hopefully I'll have a jeep to put it on this week.

I also encountered the vibration at low RPMs with my install (minus the drilling). I added some washers in different places so the plate floats rather than contacts the frame. I'll replace those with spacers next oil change.

I also checked the water path while it was on the lift... If the passenger wheel is turned to the right just enough, water would surely hit that ridiculous silver harness on top. It would have only been a matter of time before the 500 mile countdown appeared on my ride!

As far as my testimonial... it's still cheaper than a new injector! hahaha!

This plate and a CV catch can, in my opinion, are the two most important mods for this vehicle
