Thumbs up Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

Hi everyone

1st post, 1st time owner of a JGC, 2014 Summit 2WD - love it.

So here's the testimonial.

It took longer for me to jack up the front end and place jack stands underneath the front end than it did to install the skid plate.

I did not drill into the frame and attached that last bolt. 3 seem sturdy enough for me. If i hear any rattle over time then i'll go retrofit.

Tim

So have any other 2015s attempted to fit Dom's plate. I'm under the vehicle now and can't see how this is going to fit. Maybe there were some design changes between 2014 and 2015? The plate doesn't line up. Maybe it's just me?

Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

Hi Dom,

I can report that there are definite differences on the 2015s. Just finished installing the plate but had to improvise a bit. (Disclaimer - I just picked up my Jeep last week with a build date in December so don't know about others.) Just compared to the directions, I noticed some issues. For one thing, the bolts holding on the under tray are 13mm, not 8mm as in the documentation (I think that was changed in later versions, but there are still references to an 8mm bolt as in Step 3. Just FYI, there are no 8mm stock bolts on my 2015.) Also, your protection plate can't go between the metal skid plate and the fiber board since the angle of the plate "arm" hits the skid plate. Didn't want to bend your plate being aluminum and was afraid of breaking it. So I just mounted it on top of the skid plate. Fit fine so no worries. Lastly, the factory tab mounting hole is smaller on the 2015 so the supplied bolts and speed nut didn't fit (step 8). Ended up zip-tying the plate arm to the factory hole since I don't think there will be any strain but it should keep it from rattling. Ended up not drilling either, and didn't need the high strength double sided tape I bought (yet) as the two bolts and zip tie method I improvised is keeping that thing pretty secure. Overall, great product, but you really need 2014 and 2015 versions with different hardware.

Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

Thanks for that ...

Ok maybe some 2015s are different ? I have confirmed and personally installed some that had your situation as well as being able to install it( between plate and fiber board. With front OEM metal skid plate). In some of those instances when installing the plate between the OEM metal plate and the fiber board, I was able to fit it with no problem, was able to fit it between by loosening the OEM metal plate and slightly shifting it towards driver( maybe 1/8"-1/4") and not being able to fit it between therefore having to install as you did, on top( or closest to ground).

Very strange about the side mounting point closest to passenger front! That's the first one I have heard of it not fitting at all!! It's more like I hear that it's just hard to install because of the speed nut. Is the out side diameter of the bolt not small enough to get in or it's too long?

I'll need to sit down with Bryin , the project manager on this product, and make some changes to the directions and illustrations. Sorry about that, I have be extremely busy.

Thanks

Dom

Looks like Jeep made some changes mid cycle, or maybe just a little bit of "American" quality control ("Eh, looks 'bout right. Send it out!"). Anyways, the over-the-skid plate is an easy work-around. The side mounting hole was too narrow so everything lined up, but the diameter of the supplied bolt was too wide and wouldn't fit in the factory hole. Don't know about depth but it looked a tad too long, too. (That's what she said!) If the zip ties don't hold, I just find a simple bolt/nut combo from my random collection of leftover parts from previous car mods. :-)

Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

I'm late - did the install during the holidays with a buddy (which is helpful, especially for that that piece).

2014 CRD
V2 of Doms plate
Took about 30 mins (45 total with collecting tools, reading and re-reading directions).

Fit and finish - 10/10 Went in perfectly, no finagling with it.

Not sure if the instructions were old but there was a couple things that didn't make sense for but nothing major that you couldn't figure out.

Thanks Dom

Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

Like my previous post during heavy rains in Miami, I drove through flooded streets in Tampa today with no worries. Dom's plate gives me confidence that my JGC EcoDiesel's DEF injector is well protected and I need not be concerned.

Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

I'll have to agree with Hayasa on both the 13mm bolt issue and the arm of the DEF skid not being able to fit under the stock metal skid plate. I needed to mount mine in top as well and that is after completely removing the metal skid to try and realign it to accept the plate in the sandwiched position as instructed. No issues with the speed it bolt although it is a tight fit. I have probably one of the last 2014's built.... June 19th build date on mine.

Re: Testimonial for DOMs DEF injector/ harness protection plate

Just finished installing your plate on my 2015 Overland with the OFA2 option. Chrysler has added a skid plate for the DEF harness, mine being built on 2/9/15. It is a small plate that only covers the harness but adds no protection for the injector.

Your plate still installs basiclly the same, and goes directly over this factory plate. No hole is needed to be drilled into the frame because a factory bolt is already there in the location of the dimple you have in your plate. Simply drill the plate hole and use the factory bolt with a couple of washers as a spacer and it in. You might make a note of it in the instructions for the 2015,s built after the first of the year. This additional skid plate may be part of the ORA2 package's skid plates I dont know.
