Re: That smell ...

we have about 1100 miles on ours and when sitting in traffic or parked with the engine running the smell is extremely strong. Hopefully they figure something out. Got a pregnant wife which is quickly going to turn into a newborn having to ride in the vehicle. Could be a problem.

I got a distinct burning smell when I moved from 4-hi to 4-low today. It's gone now...but strange.

Re: That smell ...

I also occasionally get the "burnt plastic" smell. It seems pretty random, but when I do get it, it's pretty strong. I parked after one especially strong odor session and did a sniffing walk-around. It was inconclusive, but seemed stronger toward the rear of the Jeep. Since I do mostly highway driving it's not a big issue, but I can see it being a real problem in city stop and go traffic. I now have a little over 1700 miles on the Jeep.

Re: That smell ...

This is probably just pure coincidence but the other day when I was washing the SFU I took the engine cover off to get a little familiar with everything in the engine bay and I noticed that the hose clamps that hold the air intake tube weren't even tightened down. I lightly lifted up on the tube and both ends came completely off. Of course I tightened them down but since then I haven't had the cat piss smell at all. Again, probably a coincidence but maybe something to look at.

Re: That smell ...

Have any of you actually called Jeep/Chrysler consumer support. I have dealt with them in the past for my Wrangler, and they were extremely helpful and proactive in solving my case. .. I am sure if everybody open a case, they will have an extra incentive to figure it out.

I also wonder if this is specific to the Diesel?
