To Overland Expo Pulling Trailer

Just returned from the Overland Expo in Flagstaff, AZ. Pulled a 3k lb. VMI Off-road Canyon trailer from Taos. The trailer is a rectangular aluminum box with front dimensions of 6' wide x 8' high. Total mileage for the 1445 mi. trip was 17.3.

A lot of the driving was on I-40 at 70-75 mph and into a strong headwind on the way west. Pulling the trailer with my JGC Overland was a pleasure. Kept it in Economy most of the way and used paddle shifters to downshift occasionally.

Went through a line of thunderstorms on Rt. 40 near Gallup, NM on the way over and had cross winds of at least 40 mph. One section of the road had a massive amount of small hail a few minutes before I passed through and portions of the road were icy. I passed a number of vehicles that had skidded off the interstate. The Overland, with stock tires, handled the situation flawlessly.

Re: To Overland Expo Pulling Trailer

17.3 mpg is great! I get up to 16.5 (mtns) to 18 (fwy) towing a 19 ft Airstream Bambi. I love this version of the JGC as a TV (way better than my 2000 WJ).
