Transmission update(flash)

How many of you have had the latest transmission flash on your 2014 or 2015 WK2? Any of you wish you hadn't? Why?

Re: Transmission update(flash)

Are you talking actual flashes or the adaptive relearn?

Re: Transmission update(flash)

I had harsh up and downshifting quite some time ago. The adaptive relearn process took care of it for me. That was like 9-10K miles ago already. It's shifted beautifully for me ever since.

Some people were lucky with just doing that, others weren't. With all the threads out hear on the transmission I'm sure you'll find people generally having mixed results with TSB flashes, valve body replacement and even entire transmission replacement.

There's just nothing definitive you can point to and say, "That is the fix!"

Re: Transmission update(flash)

Never had any transmission flash. June 2014 build date. Just not crazy about the forced downshifting on hill descend with cruise control set. And starting off from a rolling stop. It won't shift into 1st until you completely stop the vehicle.

How did you perform adaptive relearn? Remove battery cable?

Mine is an April 2014 build.

Actually, not shifting down to 1st until virtually stopped is normal. Slamming into 1st (like I had) is not normal. I've never had an issue with forced downshifting on descent with cruise on. However, when mine was new and downshifted to 7th on an ascent I had trouble with it not wanting to shift back into 8th when I leveled off. That problem required a flash to fix.

The transmission is supposed to learn how to shift based on your driving habits. Unfortunately, it's "learning" bad habits that aren't based on your driving. I don't know if anyone really knows how or why it's doing that.

The dealer applies the adaptive relearn procedure which basically wipes out the transmission's learned behavior... like a reset. It's a little more involved than a battery disconnect. If you go out to wk2jeeps.com you can find the TSB for it.

If the relearn works it may take a few hundred miles of driving for shifting issues to disappear, so one needs patience to see if it's successful.

Re: Transmission update(flash)

I recently flashed the latest for my May '15 build and it's alright. I used to have random partial throttle shudders in 1st and 2nd in traffic. That's fixed and they moved the random shudder to when I'm in reverse now lol.

Guess I'd rather have it in reverse than forward. My tranny has always shifted smooth.

Re: Transmission update(flash)

July 14 build and she would shift hard from 3rd to 2nd when coming to a stop. Flash at maybe 1000 miles cured it immediately and she drives 100% even when towing 6500lbs.
