Troubles.....QLII, 8HP70 and "The Rattle" ?????

Well,
We just returned from a 2500 mile road trip with our JGC and our Lance TT.
Motor ran great, average 17mpg out 16mpg return.

But weirdness now rules...
We had gassed up/stopped several times there and also returning but then.....at Lordsburg,NM, we parked up at a rest stop and our JGC sounded like everything on the exhaust system was rattling apart. This was after a 300 mile run with everything being hot. Now as soon as I revved it up, the rattling lessened/stopped. So, we called Jeep Customer Care and informed them we would be stopping in Las Cruces for two nights. They gave us Jack Key Jeep in Las Cruces to contact...really nice, helpful folks BUT - the rattling had stopped when we got to Las Cruces and, interestingly, it hasn't happened since except for a low level tinkling noise when it was hot. However, Jack key (thanks Bridget and Donny!) did squeeze us in, put Smiffy up on the hoist and two techs went at it but both said they couldn't find anything loose under there!

Don't you just HATE intermittent crap like this!
So we then headed on back home down I-10 but noticed harsh downshifts from 6-5 going up the hills on I-10.....we thought this had gone away with the reflash but its baaaack....Dayyum!!!

Got home, unhitched the trailer in the driveway and OOOOHH! NOOOO! Service Air Suspension Immediately came up on the EVIC. Dayyyum! So I tried raising/lowering but it just had 1 light on (normal) and nothing happened when I tried to do anything.

Called Crenwelge Jeep in Kerrville, told them about the SAS immediately light and they got me in next Wednesday at 3:00. I then called Jeep Customer Care as I was unsure if I could still drive or even tow with it!
They said don't drive, don't tow with it get it into dealer, get it towed/flatbedded - Errr!!!! He then said something about was anything flashing along with the SASI warning. Well, I hadn't noticed anything and told Customer Care exactly what happened and that I had already booked it in for next week. But, after him asking about the flashing message and for curiosity sake, I told them wait a moment, let me go recheck the message. Went out to garage, started the JGC and Voila! the message had disappeared from the message center but when I went to operate the panel, the QLII control acted weird, like flashing but not getting into OR1 or OR2 even though the Jeep was rising up! Went back to phone and told them that it was still acting squirrelly and, thankfully, I had it booked in for next Wednesday.

Now I'm pissed off but thinking this maybe was a sensor/electrickery issue....... I went out, pulled the fuse, let it sit for a few minutes then put the fuse back and started it up. QL went into normal mode ran it up to QL1 then back down to Exit. No probs right? Wrong.....!!!!

Second try showed it works just fine in Normal mode and down to Exit but won't go up to QL1 and QL2 now as it starts rising up but then stops and both of the "up" lights continue to flash. This really sounds like a sensor/control module issue now but whatever it is, it's going in next week and Crenwelge can thoroughly check for that freakin' rattle, reflash the TCM (again!) and get this damn QL fixed.

I still love this Jeep but its starting to piss us off now........it is our primary trailer towing vehicle and we can ill afford to have these issues when we are "on the road".

You may have an air leak preventing the vehicle from rising. The air suspension on this vehicle is designed so that the air is always maintained at a compressed pressure within the system, even when in the reservoir and not in use to support the car. This allows the vehicle to more efficiently raise and lower the vehicle. If there is a leak, the compressor must constantly run to bring more air into the system. In the event that the compressor overheats, it will shutdown and give a service now message. Then, when the compressor cools, the message will go away. Because the message went away, but you continue to have problems attempting to raise the vehicle, to me this indicates a possible air leak within the system.

Re: Troubles.....QLII, 8HP70 and "The Rattle" ?????

Haven't been to the dealer yet, that is today at 3:00, but here's what I did :

QLII.
Well, it appears that the EVIC warning came up after I removed the trailer from the JGC. I went back over the event and this is what happened :

The coupler "stuck" when I raised the trailer tongue jack, so it raised the rear end of the Jeep and freaked out the sensor, which put the warning on the EVIC. So, I pulled the fuse, waited a couple of mins and then put the fuse back in and Voila! everything now works just fine.

The Rattle.
The only thing that was loose was the fibre panel between the engine sump guard and the diff guard. I moved it up and down quite easily a few times and noticed that it did make a metallic clicking. Upon examination, there was a missing attachment fitting on the passenger side (an empty hole!), so I used a spare plastic pop rivet and that cinched it down. I don't believe it would make that loud of a noise but it was loose anyway so what the hell.

8HP70.
Interestingly, there is a reflash for 2015's for a 6 to 5th gear bump (21-045-15), which is exactly what happens on my 2014 8HP70. I had the earlier reflash done last August (21-012-15) and the lower gear stuff was cured but now this 6-5 bump appeared!

Going into the dealer today and will have them run a diagnostics on the QLII and talk to them about the 8HP70 issues. The rattle has disappeared but, then again, it only REALLY came to light after a 250/300 mile run (engine was hot) and noticeable after we stopped and it was idling. As soon as it came off idle, it stopped. Don't you HATE those!

UPDATE : Troubles.....QLII, 8HP70 and "The Rattle" ?????

Well,
The Rattle :
The only thing they discovered was a loose PM sensor (DPF system) which could have caused the rattle!

QLII
The QL system is working but the system will not 'pump up' to OffRoad2, so the dealer ordered a new pump. Of course, they are back ordered but our JGC is still driveable, as we do not have any intention of going into OR2 any time soon!

8HP70
They did the reflash again but, when hooked up to the WiTech, the gearbox showed all systems and pressures were normal. Will just have to see what happens when we next tow our trailer in March.

So are you saying they did a flash of 2015 8hp70 software onto a 2014? Or did I read that wrong?

Not sure.....they still have the ticket open as they are awaiting the new QL pump to finish off all the work.
As soon as I get the final job ticket, I will let you know. However, I believe they may have reflashed it with the 2014 TCM update but I saw on a checklist the tech said the tranny pressures were all good but I was not dealing with the main service writer, who was at lunch.
