Have to say the same thing. Just got latest TCM and PCM updates last week. No complaints before, but shifts are noticeably better and the throttle tip in when starting out in 1st is way, way better. More responsive, no lag. Still lovin this truck.

Noticed pretty hard shifts going from 3-2-1 when stopping.

Unhooked battery for awhile, fixed it somewhat. But, I could still feel it.

Just got the update this morning, and cross my fingers, but right now it is amazingly better. Almost like a different jeep.

after mine was flashed 2-1 downshifts became seamless.. it seems to hold 2nd gear from roll to stop and then downshifts to 1. Which is how I drive a manual gear shift.

Just had the latest TCM & PCM updates and shifting is much improved both up and down. Anxious to see if MPG changes.

Made an appointment for later one afternoon after work this week; TSB says 7 minutes depending upon connection, but the dealer said they could take upwards of an hour. Hoping to have both PCM and TCM re-flashed at the same time, in a half hour or so, but as long as they can do it and get it all done before they want to go home, I will be happy!

Re: TSB - Shift improvements for 2014 3.0L Diesel (Feb 28/2015)

OK, so I'm late to this thread. Been driving my WK2 off and on - nice weather, I ride motorcycles to work, and my other job uses my Cummins to tow a 24 foot cargo trailer full of PA equipment for festival concerts. But...when I drive the WK2 lately, it PISSES ME OFF leaving a stop because it is so slooooowwwww. It's like either the torque converter won't lock in, or the turbo won't spool. I've actually skipped a heartbeat or three crossing traffic thinking "my god it's not going to go fast enough to avoid being hit by that Mack truck". Even my stickshift Cummins will come off the line harder...with a 10k lb trailer behind it!

I think the most annoying part is, it's not predictable.

I've tried burying my boot on the pedal - sometimes it helps, sometimes not so much, and sometimes it's guaranteed whiplash. And when I do that...it KILLS the MPG.

That is, literally, the only issue I have with the Jeep. No shudder. No goofy shifts. It just won't come off the line. There's no 2-1 shift jerk because I honestly don't think it drops into 1...well...EVER. 14k miles, no MIL ever. No DTC's ever. Just a crappy habit of falling on its face when I need to get through an intersection.

I'll schedule an appointment to get the flashes done...any ideas from the Collective?

Yes, we can probably all relate. If you're concerned about it then just spool up your turbo before launch. One foot on the brake, one on the gas... works very well for me (as necessary) on stock firmware.

Hyperbole? Snow mode? Failing to turn on your gear indicator in EVIC or failing to observe said gear indicator?

Re: TSB - Shift improvements for 2014 3.0L Diesel (Feb 28/2015)

I'm with Racer on this one. It's the worst attribute of this vehicle. Theres no turbo spool issues IMHO. No offense intended to previous reply but a non turbo diesel could pull off the line faster than my overland. I dont want to pay for a tune and risk warranty issues so unlike others this is not an option. My guess is this is a byproduct of the programming of the fly by wire throttle control. Chrysler seems obsessed with babying throttle up... Notice it when i resume cruise from a crawl. Slow ramp up until i reach 45mph.

With all that said, I still really like this rig. On road trips its the best I've had. I just have to get used to the rear locker kicking in when i pull out of intersections...

I get the lag in certain conditions from a stop as well. I don't have a firm understanding of how the automatic transmission works, but a lot of times the hesitation seems like it's tranny related.
I mean, there is hardly never delay at speed. The limited times I've experienced it is at fwy speed while smashing the pedal and it seems like the computer has to think about how many gears to drop, gives the command to the tranny, it reluctantly agrees to go from 8th to 5th and whiplash ensues.
It's a tricky vehicle to master, that's for sure.

Re: TSB - Shift improvements for 2014 3.0L Diesel (Feb 28/2015)

Remember, unless you are in sport mode, it will take off in 2nd gear every time.

Still, I bought new a 2012 Volkswagen TDI Touareg that my Dad now owns, and that truck is a blast to drive around in because it just gets up and goes. Not a 1/4 mile barn burner, but really quick off the line. For some reason, the Jeep is just not intended to as it comes from the factory, to quite perform like this.

One of the handful of things that the GDT tune does that has be interested, is more power and I believe the a tweak to the throttle control. I wonder if their tune would not satisfy this issue?

My 2014 starts in first gear every time from a standstill in normal mode.

Heh, I definitely wasn't defending the design. I have to drive this Jeep like a grandpa at intersections to avoid those heartstopping several seconds while I have the accelerator floored, a vehicle is approaching, I'm in the middle of the intersection, my Jeep's engine rpms are high, but yet the vehicle feels like it's powered by a lawn mower engine... then the turbo kicks in. Or I can do a turbo launch, which does work to provide instantaneous power and acceleration without hesitation (and soots up the DPF rather quickly as well).
