Re: Turbo whistle

I took a short video last night doing some brake boosting. You can get an idea of the sound the intake makes. It sounds much better in person of course.

Nice! That's with the resonator still installed?

Maybe you should get these tips installed? :-)

Re: Turbo whistle

Has anyone figured out an easy way of replacing the turbo resonator yet?

Re: Turbo whistle

Yes. Just replace it with a straight pipe. I had a muffler shop cut one for me and make one side wider. I will sell it for $35 shipped.

That's what I did with mine. Get a little more whistle with it.

Re: Turbo whistle

The K&N CAI comes with a nice, aluminum silencer delete pipe. You can purchase it separately if you wish. I have the entire setup on my '14 and it sounds amazing.

Can you provide info for purchasing the delete pipe separately? I don't see it available without the intake on their site.

Call K&N, I bought the CAI and it came with it. I did read in the K&N CAI thread that they sell the pipe separately for under 100 bucks.

Re: Turbo whistle

I don't have a diesel but have owned turbo cars previously. From what I read here, it has been confirmed: It goes Air Filter -> Turbo -> Silencer -> Intercooler -> Manifold

The whistle sound is generated from the turbo inlet impeller. So the only thing stopping the sound getting to our ears is the air ducting and filter. Sounds like a CAI will do the trick.

The 'resonator' seems to perform a noise reduction for diesel clatter.
