Vacuum Line in Battery Compartment??

I did some searching and maybe I used the wrong terms but I did not see this listed anywhere.

We just finished up detailing our new 2014 Overland and my wife was Scotch Guarding our interior when she found the battery cover off and this vacuum line hanging out blocking the cover from going on.

This is strapped to the electrical line that comes out of the compartment on the right side of the photo. Should this line come out of the compartment with the wiring or should it be routed and kept in the battery compartment.

Last question is are we missing a line that attaches to the plastic piece you see on the end of the line.

Thanks for looking guys.

Re: Vacuum Line in Battery Compartment??

Battery vent line? Lots of cars with batteries in the passenger compartment have a similar vent line to capture the outgassing. Maybe look for a place to plug into the battery, usually on the top.

Re: Vacuum Line in Battery Compartment??

Thanks guys, I did not see one on our 2013 limited or our 2014
Summit, but I just did a quick look at those, I'll get out the
flashlight and mirror and take a better look.

I'll post back with what I find.

Re: Vacuum Line in Battery Compartment??

No venting for Glass Matt Battery's. They have no off gassing. They are 100% sealed and have much more power than regular capped acid batteries.

Re: Vacuum Line in Battery Compartment??

There had been reports of water getting into the battery compartment due to a problem with the sunroof drain. Should this thing be plugged into a hole to let water from the sunroof to make its way outside?

I agree with above post about AGM batteries not needing to be vented.

Re: Vacuum Line in Battery Compartment??

I know better with the AGM batterys and it just went over my head,

I looked a little more and don't see where this is supposed to go or
if there is another connection, I'll bring it up to the dealer when we
go by.

Re: Vacuum Line in Battery Compartment??

That is the battery breather vent line, it connects to a small hole very near the top of the battery on a cap. The vent line on my 2014 GC Summit EcoDiesel looks exactly like the one in your picture and plugs into the battery from the back seat side of the access opening and goes directly down to the floor pan. The following information is from another respected Jeep information site.

The 2011 Grand Cherokee use a new Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) technology battery. AGM batteries are the latest step in the evolution of lead-acid batteries. Instead of using a gel, an AGM uses a fiberglass like separator to hold the electrolyte in place. This construction is very robust and able to withstand severe shock and vibration and the cells will not leak even if the case is cracked. The AGM battery is a sealed unit that uses special relief valves to vent vapors from the battery. The electrolyte is stored in sponge like separators consisting of matted glass filters. This suspension increases the efficiency of the charging and discharging rate of the battery. Continuous under-and overcharging is detrimental to this type of battery, therefore, voltage and current regulation are critical. AGM's have a very low self-discharge rate of from 1% to 3% per month.
Battery location, access and removal The battery is located under the passenger seat. A breather line runs from the battery through the bottom of the recess well to the outside of the vehicle. Remote jump-start posts are located under the hood to assist in jump starting.
