Voltage Readings

Hey Guys,

We've got about 8000 miles on our Summit, when we got
the jeep it was on the showroom floor with a complete dead
battery. They jumped it and I put it on charge when we got
it home and have not had any issues.

But last week I happen to setup the voltage reading running
and we were only seeing 13 volts. I put the jeep on the charger
when we got home and it was less than 75% so I left her on
a 10 amp auto charger.

I pulled the charger yesterday and put a volt meter on her today
and seeing 12.5 volts, when starting and letting her idle she only
is seeing 12.9 to 13 volts at the jump connections under the hood
and at the battery.

I thought she would be putting out a little more voltage going down
the road, what are you guys seeing.

Thanks

Re: Voltage Readings

When the engine is running my JGC Voltage indicator is usually showing 13V range. A few times I've seen it going to 14V. Never saw a 12V. With the engine off, and the vehicle in RUN mode for a good 20-30 minutes I got readings as low as 11.5V. You do realize that since 2011 all JGC's come with a AGM type battery. AGM batteries require a special charger that is certified to charge AGM's. You can easily kill the battery if you use a regular charger with it.

Yep, same type of battery in my Harley, properly charged up, sounds like I'm getting proper voltage, I know the first day of running with a full charge it will show 14 volts all day long, a few days later it shows 13 running, our running is in the country not the city so the jeep is getting a good run each time.
