It would be nice to have your buddy email Jeep before breaking the news. Maybe that would get action without the black eye.

Jeep deserves a big black eye for this unless they fix it ASAP.

Agreed! So, tell them a mag article and 3rd party fix is out and give them the chance publicly to respond.

Here is the response I got from Chrysler Care:

"We appreciate the time and effort you took to tell us of your
dissatisfaction in our product. We have documented your comments and
will provide them to our product development team for review."

I suggest that others contact Customer Care so they know it is not only one person's opinion. Something I did not say to them that I wish I had:
It is ironic that sturdy, metal components are protected by skid plates yet the delicate DEF injector is not.

Here is a link that should get you to the Customer Care email:

I'm sorry, I didn't think to do that and haven't been back to the forum in a week or so. That would have been a good idea. However, it may be possible to just visit the service dept. of a Jeep dealer...they may have broken one in their shop! The day I took mine in, there was another diesel in the shop for the same problem. And this is a SMALL dealer in Boulder, CO. Two diesel GC's in the shop the same day for the same problem... broken DEF injector... not good!

Sent from my iPad using JeepGarage
I sent a note to customer care. Below is their response:

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

Does urea corrode stainless? I'm thinking a stainless steel injector is the right fix. Plastic and heat are typically a bad combo.

Isn't there only *1* dealer actually in Boulder? (I'm in Boulder also). What did you think of their service dept.? I bought on the Texas Group buy and drove back, so I have *no* insight into the dealers in the area. Would LOVE to hear your perceptions!

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

OK, reading the response that thereynolds got from Chrysler Customer Care reminded me of an old joke:

Back in the day when meals were served on the airlines, a traveler had settled into his seat, the stewardess had brought him his dinner tray, and he was enjoying a very good meal. After all, he had paid a high price for the service, and was determined to enjoy it.

As he sat there eating his meal, he looked down at the floor of the airliner and saw a cockroach running down the aisle. Feeling disgusted, and questioning the general cleanliness of the airplane, and his meal specifically, he asked the stewardess to take the tray away. He continued on with his journey and didn't think any more about it.

After he had completed his travels and was back home, the thought of that cockroach on the airplane continued to bother him. After several days, he decided to write to the president of the airline and express his dissatisfaction.

Much to his surprise, a week later he received a letter from the president of the airline. In the letter, the president said, in part,

"I can't tell you how much I appreciate your calling this error on our part to my attention. We have more than 1200 flights a day, with an average of 4 stops on each flight. That is almost 5000 segments of passengers every day that our airplanes fly.

"We have a very diligent staff of personnel who, given the brief time with the airplanes overnight, try very hard to apply the best standards of cleanliness possible for our passengers. Clearly we failed with the flight you were on.

"It is with my greatest appreciation of your taking the time to advise us of this failure, that I have instructed our staff to add additional people and to push harder for a higher level of cleanliness for all of our passengers, who, like yourself, deserve only the finest from this airline.

"Once again, I thank you for contacting me with this issue so that we may address it."

As he read the letter, he began to feel sympathy for the daunting challenge facing the airline. He thought that perhaps he had been a bit harsh, and that, as the president had said in his letter, they did have a difficult task. He felt better about the airline, and swore to himself that he would indeed fly the airline again.

As he was gathering up the letter and the envelope to discard them, a small piece of paper fell out of the envelope. He reached down to pick it up and saw, written in pencil on the paper,

"Send this nut the bug letter."
