Might be waiting awhile. Still waiting for Chrysler to fix the N23 recall screwup on the the previous generation WK.

I ordered a new 2014 yesterday, and I too will be sourcing solutions to modify the (lack of) shielding for the DEF injector.

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

You're probably right Jason911. Funny you should mention N23, I have a dealer appointment next week for loss of 4low (right when I needed it of course), probably due to having N23 done awhile back, fingers crossed that the situation doesn't get ugly.

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

It wouldn't surprise me if the Jeep DEF system really was an afterthought. Isn't DEF one of the things that's not on the export diesels? Somebody may have said "don't worry, we'll never sell these in the US", and then followed that with "don't worry, nobody will ever take something this expensive off road".

I haven't seen anything on the Ram 1500, but at least some of the Cummins Rams were already using DEF. From some pictures I saw I think those had the injector more toward the top of the exhaust pipe instead of sticking down out of the bottom.

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

Chrysler has a picture of the DEF injector on the RAM trucks. They seem to have given more thought to its protection - towards the middle of this page:

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

Question: Is the square flange that joins the DPF to the Y pipe and CAT welded to the Y pipe?

If not, cutting the pipe after the Y would allow it to rotate slightly and help conceal the DEF injector. It could be rewelded or a stainless coupler installed at the cut. Just a thought.

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

Someone on this forum had an injector (plastic) break off due possibly to a stick catching on it. Interesting that for another brand fragility of the injector is noted. Perhaps the injector has to be a plastic because of the corrosiveness of urea on metals? This thread is interests me because I have ordered a diesel overland with the intent of using it for moderate off-road and long drive use. On paper it would seem to be the ideal compromise. Hmm...

Theirs only a little DEF in the tank of ever CRD JGC at the dealership. You have to negotiate for them to fill it free upon purchase of the vehicle or pay. It's sad, but true. I'm sure many of the salesman don't even know to tell you that the tank needs to be filled.

It is delivered to the dealer like that to reduce the chance of it going bad on the lot, but they should be filling it as part of the PDI. It says so in the diesel section of the guide. Quoting from memory it says the vehicle is delivered with with a full tank of DEF.
