Please start another thread in the EcoDiesel area somewhere and post thing link here. Something like DEF Skid Plate group or DEF shield buy, what ever suits you and I am happy to refer people to that thread..... It just saves them reading through all of this.

I didn't think it would be an issue but Scott is good with it as long as you are..

If you could repost the prototype or whatever other photos of the new shield with the date and your forum name on them we don't need to worry about people scamming your idea or designs.

Thanks for putting your time and effort into it.

Will,

Talking Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

DOM42 Count me in if you decide to do a batch of protection plates for the DEF injector! After hotel cost, day and a half off work, the rental car, and the repair bill even two hundred for the plate would not be bad! Was thinking to find somebody to make me something similar to your solution. Thanks for your efforts!!

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

Count me in also.. if I can't drive this thing where I want when I want under any conditions, I should have kept my previous 4WD vehicle that never let me down. This vehicle better be pretty bullitproof under any driving condtions or I'm very disappointed....

Re: Vulnerable DEF injector wiring!

This is an uninformed question, but I have read two accounts now of the DEF injector being broken by "going through water".

Having the DEF injector jutting into water like a paddle and getting sheared off seems like a different type of shear force than a striking a rock would be.

What I am wondering is whether a standard skid plate would protect against this "broken off by dragging through water" scenario, or if the plate also needs to have some sort of vertical element with angled protection to divert water around the vulnerable injector. Perhaps something like a vertical V-shape perpendicular to the skid plate in order to divert the drag force of the water. Obviously, the goal is to keep the injector from getting sheared by water while also keeping the standard horizontal plate armor to protect against rocks, etc.

Then again, perhaps a regular, flat plate will handle the "puddle issue" without any problem. Just thought I would ask.

There is verification of some being damaged at the factory, water may have completed the job by the water causing the nicked connection to flex back and forth.

A Shield will change the water flow either which way so that might be interesting.
