Warranty options - Geico or Maxcare

I will be reaching the 15k miles mark on my GC, and I will have to decide if I want to go with Geico or Maxcare.

Does anyone of you have any experience with either? Max Care is only limited to 8 yrs/125K for diesels and will cost me $2405 with $200 deductible.

Whereas, Geico just adds $11 a month to my existing insurance.

Re: Warranty options - Geico or Maxcare

Mopar is the best bet in my opinion. Check out Chrysler Warranty Direct (888) 352-6103 for a competitive quote. You don't have to purchase it from your dealer.

I got 8 years/ 120k for my diesel with a 100 deductible. Check out chryslers direct. MOPAR will have the best.

Re: Warranty options - Geico or Maxcare

$11 per month seems like one of those "too good to be true" deals. That works out to be only $1056 for 8 years. Is there a deductible? My guess is that there are some strict limitations on the Geico plan, or some other fine print that you aren't noticing.

Re: Warranty options - Geico or Maxcare

Ziegler is where most of us bought our Maxcare since they have the best price. Mine $1950 and $100 deductible.
It is NOT a warranty but a service plan so be sure you understand the difference. It virtually covers the entire vehicle.
Glad to have mine gives peace of mind and that isn't much money to 8/120....

You are correct- all extended warranties are in fact insurance products, regulated as insurance in every state. Technically they're called extended service contracts, not warranties.

I haven't looked a Geico policy recently but they did allow for their sourcing of used parts in lieu of new in their versions. I know of 2 instances where in one case they had a dealer install a used cylinder head on a BMW, and in another case they found a used transmission (mileage unknown) and had the repair dealer install in a friend's low mileage SUV.

Same here, just a little less than Ziegler.

The price I quoted for Maxcare was from Ziegler's website. Geico pricing is after $250 deductible.

Here is what it says about the warranty from Geico.

What is Mechanical Breakdown Insurance (MBI)?
Mechanical Breakdown Insurance covers many mechanical repairs to your car, protecting you from expensive repair bills. This coverage is only available for vehicles with less than 15,000 miles that have been purchased within the last 15 months. A $250 deductible per claim applies. Mechanical Breakdown Insurance is similar to a dealer's extended warranty protection. It's in excess of coverage provided by the manufacturer's warranty.

Mechanical Breakdown Insurance covers repairs to the following systems:

Engine Steering Air Conditioning
Transmission Cooling Brakes
Drive Axle Suspension Electrical

EXCLUSIONS: MBI does not include regular maintenance services such as tune-ups, suspension alignment, wheel balancing, filters, lubrication, coolant and fluids, spark plugs, brake pads and lining, brake shoes and tires (includes tire wear and/or tire damage). Breakdown repairs made necessary by intentional damage, rust and oxidation, misuse, or improper maintenance are not covered. Mechanical Breakdown coverage is in excess of coverage provided by the manufacturer's warranty.

Re: Warranty options - Geico or Maxcare

who would you rather have covering your jeep chrysler or geico??? seems pretty cut and dry. 30 years in dealerships taught me too never by an aftermarket warranty.

Re: Warranty options - Geico or Maxcare

While I have Maxcare...11.00 a month is at least interesting. The price of one meal out...
If you had a normal vehicle with 3/36 and you wanted to keep it 5 years... That would roughly cost you 530.00 for some "Better than nothing" extended coverage on big ticket items.... The devil is in the details of what it REALLY covered inclusively and who can fix it. GEICO is not a fly by night company, and if I knew I wasn't keeping it a really long time..It could potentially be viable. Heck what if NOTHING breaks?? ( Entirely Conceivable...)
