Water in Fuel

Have this warning frequently. I've owned many diesels and am sourcing fuel from my regular (brand name) stations. Both dealer and I have drained fuel filter multiple times. I don't see any evidence of fuel in water. Going to have it tested. Had dealer replace sensor. Have not changed the fuel filters...anyone think this would help? Has anyone installed an aftermarket water/fuel separator? Are there any gizmos for filtering fuel at the pump? Somewhat suspicious of there being no fuel cap. ~28k miles. I suppose could drain tank...is this hard to do?

FYI, have had >10 MIL lights, have replaced cat, EGR valve. Love the drive, economy, towing, hate the PIA of owning this particular diesel! First jeep ever....maybe last one! Dealer & Jeep have been terrific, and luckily close to home with free shuttle.

Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Water in Fuel

Taking mine in for my 2nd CEL. However at 24K miles never get water in fuel light. I think our filters are supposed to be changed at 30K miles. I need to check the owners manual but I think I am going to be in the new CAT club soon...

Re: Water in Fuel

yes, thanks, I just ordered new fuel filters online as dealer didn't have them in stock. WIF light has gone off and come on 2x since my original post. No one else is having this problem.

Wondering if I got a bad batch of fuel awhile ago...could it still be bad? Has anyone had to drain the fuel tank?
