But now I have to say that I'm afraid to drive it. Had to take it to Houston on a 400 mile roundtrip yesterday, and on the way home, as I was changing lanes, the car just quit. No acelerator pedal at all. Engine didn't die, just nothing from the gas pedal.
Sounds scary. Get ready to demand a fix, no if's and no but's.
A guy in New Zealand had serious issues, intermittent non starting. In trying to fix it, they fried some of the electronics. It got pretty ugly, but after driving a loan vehicle for a long time, he eventually negotiated a brand new vehicle- which has been perfect.
Don't take "we think we have fixed it" for an answer.

Good luck!

Cheers from downunder (Brisbane Australia).

Get ready to demand a fix, no if's and no but's.

I will certainly do that, but since I can't make it do the shutdown, they'll have to try and figure out why it happened. I don't know how I can be sure they fixed it until it doesn't happen again. I know I'll be very nervous when I drive it until I don't have issues for quite a while. On two of the three occasions that it did this, it would have been very possible to have had a very serious accident. There's lots of experienced owners here....anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Red face Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Sometimes when you do something stupid, you have to admit it. I admit it. The reason my car was shutting down is becuase I drive with two feet. Yes I do..always have. The electronic throttle thinks that when a foot is on the brake at the same time as one is on the pedle, it could be 'runaway throttle' and shuts down. Evidently, there are enough people who drive that way that the event log asks that question. Customer drive with two feet? So, yes I am duly embarassed about the whole thing and apologize for my dumb posts here. The service guys were nice about it and didn't laugh at me...too much.

Don't be so hard on yourself. I think there are a number of us on here who appreciate the fact that you shared this with us. There is so much technology and fail-safes built into these machines that we forget they can actually protect us from ourselves. Your post is one of the reasons why people come to sites like this, to learn new stuff. Thanks.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Not laughing here. Thanks for being man enough to post the cause. This just tells me that I can never let my mother drive my JGC (not that I was considering that to begin with...), as she is a 2-footer as well. We probably have Toyota to thank for all of this...

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

ALMOST the totally flawless road trip.......

1300 miles round trip, averaged 25.6 for the whole journey with our outgoing mileage of 29.5 getting brought down by our gas mileage on the way home. Well, it would wouldn't it, being as we had the cruise set at 80mph! Our total mileage is at 1600 and change and we show 83 percent left on the oil.

Everything went great and worked very well. We did a 15 mile off road excursion through Big Bend National Park on the Old Mine Road, washboard surface with some washed out areas. I just raised the suspension up and off we went, we were both very surprised at the lack of rattles and the ride quality. The handling of our JGC was also excellent in the twisties, it just needs a little extra input due to the steering ratio.

Love all the Bells and Whistles...had a chance to check out all the various functions and found it very intuitive.

Couldn't find a nit to pick on the power train at all, the Diesel just hummed along and I discovered that cruising at 80mph puts the rpm's right at the meaty part of the torque band! Even SWMBO was amazed at the way it pulled up the grades without changing a gear!

Can't speak highly enough of our JGC Overland but our perfect "shakedown cruise' was spoiled by us losing the radio presets on the way home....actually, not in any way a BFD !

To cure that small imperfection, I installed the 14.05.3 update on the system today !

We both really 'bonded' with Smiffy on this trip and are very happy with our choice of vehicle. We are now more than ready for our 4000 mile road trip to NM, AZ, UT and CA at the end of the month.

We really love our JGC Overland a LOT !!!

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Definitely, a BIG thanks for sharing.

90% of the time I drive one footed, that leaves 10% with two. Thanks for the warning.

The main reason I drive one footed now is I watch other drivers brake lights on which is obviously not good.

Hope all goes well now.

Took my SFU to the dealer I bought it from for the first oil change today. I was a bit nervous when they told me it was the first Ecodiesel oil change they had done. I asked a lot of questions - what kind of oil are you using, are you waiting for the oil to drain, etc. Answers all seemed good. But two hours later when I picked it up they were still working on it. Hmmmm.... I asked if they filled the DEF. "No, we don't do that on oil changes." Did you do any flash updates? "No, only if you report a problem." I was told the price was $129, but the bill was $166. When I questioned it they re-did it to $127 - front desk said they made a mistake in entering the info into the computer. I think I'll go where Shannon did next time....

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

I think many of us will be our dealers' first EcoDiesel oil change. I'm still showing 19 percent oil life at 7700 miles, so I haven't taken mine in yet, but you can bet I'm going to do just as you did and ask a lot of questions before I let them go under the hood.

Yeah, mine was $166 as well. Think I will do it myself from now on.
