The couple we are traveling with have a Grand Cherokee with the hemi. He is getting about 10mpg pulling a 24' trailer, although I think his is slightly heavier than ours. He has to stop for fuel about every 150 miles, I'm going nearly 3x that amount. Although it helps to have the 24 gal tank vs 18 on his rig, I think this speaks volumes as to the combination of the diesel and 8-speed tranny.

Hope you are having a fun trip. Glad to hear the milage doesn't drop as much as the gasser. Safe travels.

Looks great until more than one person wants to arrive/depart at a time. "Thank you for your patience. All elevators are currently assisting other drivers. Your current wait time is approximately 18 minutes."

Great. I bought mine two months ago and LOVE IT.

It was definitely worth the wait for the Diesel. Am glad I didn't give in, tired of waiting, and get the gas V-6.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

First real road trip with the GC Diesel.
Over 600 miles of driving from North Central OR. to NW Washington fuel mileage average was 28.4. Drove between 65 and 70 most of the trip. US-97, I-82, I-90, I-405, and I-5.
After hand washing the rig, I found three area's of fit not perfect.
Notified dealer, and they fixed all 3 areas in 2 days.
Areas were, Fuel door not centered, right rear tail light lens not flush with trim, and right rear fender flare not flush with
trim.
So far my impression of this vehicle is 8 out of 10.
Only draw-back is the Console Shifter. Try shifting the rig into reverse when you are in a tight place and under pressure, and in a hurry. Hard to do! I have been stuck in the middle of a intersection twice.

Now that's the one thing I thought I wouldn't like - the shifter - but I actually LOVE it! I'm having to break the habit of wanting to move the shifter forward from park to get reverse (not sure why my brain wants to do that, maybe from my stick days, or maybe my wife's Prius?) but otherwise I find it quite easy to use. I love the location (nice hand rest while using the arm rest) how it looks, how it feels. I'm glad they resisted the use of the "dial" shifter they've used elsewhere.

I think you'll get used to it quickly so those high pressure shifts will become natural, though I can see the argument that shifting shouldn't need to be re-learned.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

I made my first significant mileage trip recently and want to share some observations and comments. The quick two-day trip was for a funeral. We travelled round-trip Houston, TX to Meridian, MS, which was roughly 1200 total miles and 9.5 hours each way.

Weather was threatening along the intended route of I-10 east. The onboard weather app was a great tool as we quickly shifted routes to head north on US-59 then to I-20. We could have accessed radar on a smart phone, but it was quick and easy with the Jeep. Although it is rarely used, that morning, the app scores a solid 10.

Even though we avoided the worst of the weather, we did encounter one very heavy thunderstorm, later determined to be 2”/hour. The risk of hydroplaning seemed to come out of nowhere at highway speeds. As the rain got heavy, and I approached a pickup in the right lane, I sped up to get in front of it. The road was a 4-lane divided highway with a generous paved dividing lane and 75 mph limit. As I pulled ahead of the pickup, I felt a slight give underneath me, but the 4WD adjusted and traction stayed solid.

The pickup was not so fortunate. As I checked by rear view mirror, I could see the white truck slipping sideways. The driver over corrected and began to swerve left.Only a car link or so behind me, it continued sideways into the oncoming traffic lane. Thankfully, I was clear of it and there was no oncoming traffic. I slowed, expecting the need to turn around and offer aid. Fortunately, the driver was able to maintain the skid and came to a soft stop on the shoulder of the road. The generous divided area offered the driver time to slow and avoid a crash. I was thankful that I had passed the truck, as I would have been directly in its path as it initially lost control. If one believes 4WD is only for off-roading, think again. The confidence to maintain traction in a driving rainstorm is priceless.

The return trip was not as eventful, thankfully. The Jeep GC was a joy to drive. The adaptive cruise control worked flawlessly, although, I sometimes wish it would beep when it begins to slow. It is so smooth and gradual; you don’t realize you are slowing. Acceleration on use of the turn signal is just plain cool.

We took the southern route on the return leg. When we stopped for fuel, the Shell station was closed due to “work on the tanks”, which turned out to be a vac truck removing water. Apparently, the rain the previous day, which I avoided, was a very significant traffic event. I wonder how many drivers bought fuel before that was known. Since I was filling out of convenience more than need, I drove on to higher ground for fuel. The +600-mile range of the EcoDiesel gets a solid 10.

My fuel mileage averaged 28.9 mpg, but could have been higher because the first 150 miles were city driving the day before I left. The speed on the freeway was generally in the 75-79 mph range, so I think the 28.9 mpg average is EXCEPTIONAL. My Jeep GC 4WD EcoDiesel is an August build with 11,200 miles. I had no issues with the DEF injector in the heavy rain and puddles.

QFT. Some people I tell this to just roll their eyes. They'd rather save $1500 on whatever vehicle by not having A/4WD.
