Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

I'd kill for pdf's of the actual shop manuals. I got the dreaded shutdown message and am waiting on parts as well.

Vtail...have you dealer pull your DEF injector and do a flow test. Mine was obstructed. I will learn to clean it myself since it's pretty simple to do.

What if we are in Timbuktu (actually were in the Porcupine Mtns of Michigan, which felt like timbuktu) and the "your engine will not start in 200 miles - see dealer" warning comes on? We may not find a dealer within 200 miles and even if we did, we'd be stuck in Timbuktu Michigan with a trailer that needs to be returned by a certain date. At least we'd have a place to stay with the trailer but might face the $30/hr late fee if the trailer isn't returned on time. This has me VERY concerned and makes me wonder if using the SFU like we had hoped (pulling trailers, travel, etc) is a bad idea? Is there any way to disable or reset this "feature"?

Just curious, what if you don't shut it off, will it run indefinitely? I'm concerned about this as well since I'm heading up to Ottertail at the end of the month and my def level hasn't changed from half full for quite awhile. I have a couple jugs in the garage but they're approaching a year and not sure I trust them before a long trip.

I have to take mine in because of shimmy in the steering but they can't look at until next Friday. Not happy that it's that far out for an appointment but there isn't another dealer in town so I'm stuck with poor service. So far I'm not that crazy about the Jeep brand and I let them know in my survey but they don't seem to care.

I had made an appointment previously because the engine malfunction light had come on and wouldn't go off. They couldn't get me in for two weeks. Jeeeezzzz. Fortunately, when I had the issue with the "engine won't start in 200 miles" warning, they took it in right away and said they would try to fit it in. Well they got to it the next day, but that doesn't help when it takes two weeks to get the part.....I'm heading your direction in that I'm not wild about the Jeep brand at this point, but I sure like my Summit (except for the current problems). The dealer has been pretty good, calls every few days to keep me informed, etc. but they can't get the parts from Jeep.

Vtail...I have the MIL on and am also waiting on a Catalytic Converter. I haven't received any shut down messages yet and am driving. I'm currently working with the dealership in Hopkins, what dealership are you at in case I need an alternate that has some experience with a similar issue? I have a feeling this is going to be on going. Also, I believe MN just recently put a 10% required bio-diesel regulation in effect until winter diesel when it will go back down to 5%.

I'll ask them. When you find out how to do it yourself, that could be helpful info. However, you still have to then somehow clear the error codes I would think.

My vehicle is at Fury Motors in So.St.Paul. I bought it through Bloomington Chrysler/Jeep because Fury wouldn't deal with me, but they are closer for service.

Here is the Minnesota biodiesel mandate:
http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/hrd.../ssbiofuel.pdf
Requires minimum of B10 during warm months, but B5 during the winter. Its supposed to go to B20 in 2018. I hate the government.

Have your dealer pull the DEF injector. If it is partially obstructed, you'll get the P20EE code with the CEL. If it completely clogs, you'll get the "Wont restart in xxx miles, see dealer" message. My injector was plugged with DEF chrystals due to a failed DEF pump. Others are having this issue. Insist that your dealer start a Star case to force Jeep's awareness. Caĺl Jeep Customer Care at (800) 992-1997 and tell them you are aware that this DEF related issue is widespread. Provide your Star case #. Tell them to provide factory assistance.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Thanks for the feedback. I believe I have a Star case open and will contact Chrysler customer service to follow up and get involved in the process.

Bio fuels are nothing more than welfare for farmers. Now they have formed lobbies to assure their entitlements are secured by EPA, federal, state, and local regulation. Un-Amercan and anti-capitalist. It makes me sick to see what we have become.

Our family owns a lot of farmland and I grew up on a farm. I agree with you in principle, but from what I've read, most of the lobby groups are industry people who make the equipment, produce the fuels, sell the fuels, etc, not the farmers themselves (but I could be wrong). If it weren't for government subsidies most of the green stuff (solar, wind, biofuels, etc) wouldn't support themselves financially. Let the free market determine what survives and what doesn't. Eventually some of the green technologies will become financially self supporting and that will be a good thing.

Now the VW dealer is recommending people change the oil in their diesel every 5,000 miles rather than the original 10,000 miles. All because of government requirements for biofuels. I've emailed my state representative, but he's a big lefty and it probably won't do any good.
