While I think the process of clay bar, sealing, waxing, using a tooth brush to wash the whole car:-), etc are interesting, if I'm honest with myself I just won't make the time to do that. On the other hand after spending more money on this car than my first house, I do want it to look nice. I'm thinking that getting a good first detailing with the processes similar to those mentioned and then just keeping it washed and maybe once or twice a year getting it detailed might be the best thing for me.....

This is one of the reasons I bought a white truck. Hopefully it will look cleaner longer. If not maybe I can convince one of my kids that if they want to drive it they want to wash it.

Looks Super! Nice to see, since you and I ordered identical Jeeps. Mine is still on a train headed for Colorado.

I HATE CAR WASHING/DETAILING. That being said, doing it once on a new car is a great time to inspect it. It also establishes a smoother finish that is easier to clean, making spray washing more effective later. Water beaded somewhat on my paint after polishing with no wax at all. My thought is that dirt doesn't stick to smooth surfaces as well and the factory clear coat has a definite texture to it. Also, NOBODY will be as careful as you are and you are dealing with a virtually perfect paint job.

I am looking at using "Jetwash 109" instead of wax whenever my first wax job quits beading water. Jetwash is a synthetic sealant that last for months and goes on/buffs easily. Its not show car shiny like carnauba but very close and it lasts. My cars sit out 90% of the time so I'm going to try it.

If anyone has experience with longer lasting paint sealants vs wax I'd love to know what you use.

Good points, and if I spent just .001% of the time I've spent on this forum giving my new SFU a good wash, seal and wax, that would probably be time well spent. It will also help with the SFU/owner bonding....

Here is my usual Chemical Guys plug...apologize in advance.

I have great experience with Menzerna SF4500 final polish and Menzerna PowerSeal. Works great and lasts a good 6 months (through a salty winter none the less), it also leaves the paint insanely smooth.

Recently I have used Chemical Guys Jetseal 109 with a coat of Butter Wet Wax on top. It has lasted since March with only a quick wax to touch up the shine in early October and still looks amazing.

For the Jeep I bought Second Skin 6...it's $100 a bottle and have no experience with it(new since August) but all the testimonials I have seen are amazing. Hoping I get the SFU before snow sticks so I can apply it to fresh clean paint.

This is what I'm talking about. Who has time to clean their car with a toothbrush? Give me a break. Although the comment that accompanied the photo is kind of funny...

"You get extra, perfectionist points if you use a new toothbrush on your car. You lose points if you use your spouses toothbrush and then put it back."

Spread the word, the insiders never ask for much but when someone is in trouble a few bucks spared goes a long way!!!!

PM me for the PayPal info once you have read the thread about being screwed by an insurance company!!!

Those of you who have offered to buy me a scotch send Marlon a few bucks on my behalf.

I know not everyone is in a position to give and that is cool but please take the time to read what happened.

Thanks,
Will

For those of you who have not heard, our friend and builder of our Jeeps had a misfortune happen to him. We are calling out to all of our friends here in the garage to help him out. If you are able to help him out, please PM Willx for the paypal account, so we can help Marlon back on his feet (and in his ride). I know we have a great group of guys here that have been awaiting their SFU's, and Marlon is one of the guys who has been helping us all along by giving us inside information, and by helping to problems solve the delays. Lets try to re-pay the favor.

647 miles to empty @ 29.1 mpg average on the computer. It looks like I only burned 22.3 gallons if the computer is right. I'm not sure I topped off adequately on the first fill up so the 2nd tank will be more definitive.

I just filled up and it took 23.46 but the pump stopped at 22.4 and after the foam went down, I got another gallon in.

Outstanding. Hopefully mine will arrive yet this week.

ps. I encourage everyone to send a paypal "care package" to Marlon to help get his wheels back on. Easy to do. What a crappy thing to happen, especially to one of our own.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Grabbed my unicorn on the 8th. Was well worth the wait. So, did anyone else have funky smells during the first few hundred miles? I'm getting a faint burning smell after I've been on the road long enough for the motor to warm up. Currently, I only have like 200miles on it. I'm righting this off as manufacturing residue cooking off. Am I right? Never bought a new car before. Also, I seem to be having a problem with the ventilated seat on the passenger side. The butt seems to cool but no air passes through the back. I'll bring this up with my dealer.

yes, numerous posts on the "funky" smell which goes away fairly soon.
