Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Is anyone re-shoeing their unicorn?

The factory tire is reportedly not optimum (trying to be nice) for snow and off-roading. I like the Goodyear silent armor tires that are on my ZJ.

Milous and Willx, how much do you charge to swap tires before my unicorn is put on the train.?

I'm one of the "in transit" folks...my CRD is on a train and its looking like Monday or Tuesday is my magic day....almost here. Just wanted to post to add this to my active threads. I love reading the initial reviews. Bring em on!

I'm seriously considering it. I live in the mountains outside Denver, and have similar concerns. I was also considering the silent armor, or the newer all terrain adventure as an option. I've run dedicated snow tires like blizzaks, nokians and pilot alpins on my all road and Outback, but I'd prefer a single tire to handle all 4 seasons.

I've read a lot of reviews of the Michelins, and the full range of opinions is out there. My current plan is to drive them and see what I think. I'll keep you posted. BTW, I used to drive amateur rally, and have dabbled as an ice/snow driving instructor, in addition to my day job as a paramedic (driving in all conditions around Vail/Breckenridge). I should be able to get you an objective review of the latitude tours in the snow. Off road will be another cup of tea...

I asked the dealer about tire swaps at purchase, and this isn't really a thing. Although there appears to be a sizeable market for "take off" items that are swapped at new vehicle delivery. You should be able to get some $$ for the OEM tires if you swap them out. Check your local paper or Craig's list.

If we only had that kind of power!

Mine is having Michelin Latitude HPs put on it over the weekend by the dealer with a trade value for the Forteras. I may get Winter Tires next year, I was pretty happy with the Michelins on my ML320 so I am going to stick with that.

I agree the Fortera is not a great tire but it is ok. What tire you use is really about personal preference and purpose.

I'll be looking forward to your recommendation on tires because I ski the Frisco and Summit area Keystone, Breckenridge, Copper, Vail, Beaver Creek and others. I usually drive my 5.7 when skiing and tires are very important. I prefer a tire that I can use all year round though. You work the area so I'm sure you have a good idea what would work in those often tough conditions.

Get the dealer to swap them out. By the way, the silent armors no longer exist. They are being phased out for their new tire Wrangler Adventure AT with Kevlar. They are supposed to be better than the SAs.
I have the SAs on mine and have 80,000 miles on them and need to get new tires before the blizzards happen. I'm going with the new Adventure ATs. Check them out.

My latest has been the nokian wr, and wr2. Which is a great 4 season tire. I had them on my allroad, and we have been using them on both our Outbacks. They only wear for 2 winters, or about 30k miles, but it's still cheaper to replace that often than to have 2 sets of dedicated tires with wheels. Plus the Subaru only syncs with one set of tire pressure sensors.

Anyway, the nokians are available in a size for the wk2 18" wheel, and also probably the 20. That could be an option. I'm waiting to see how the jeep does with the latitudes. There's a big traction difference between a 3700 pound Subie, and a much heavier jeep. The jeep also has a longer wheelbase, and much more sophisticated traction control. The real test will be stopping distance.

I'll post some subjective opinion if my jeep ever gets on a train, and gets out here.

I agree this is a great option. This will be my tire if the latitudes are not acceptable.

Sno,

Get out while you can. The diesel freaks, as you call them, think Scott gave them a special place to meet. In actuality he was just segregating them from the general population.

I'm outta here.
