I was looking into this and found a lot of people saying that if you do a little work (play hardball) you can get a year for $90-100.

That is just for the Sirrus. Mopar U connect wants an additional 20 a month, just to be able to remote start your car via an app or computer. This is crazy. Unless they also give a reduced rate, I will let that one expire also.

Personally, I won't be using Sirius XM any more. They have added so many stations and reduced the quality of it so much that I can barely even listen to it any more. I am sure the online version is a little better but SAT radio has regressed to the quality of a cassette tape or worse on most of their channels.

I agree with your assessment of SIRIUSXM Radio quality. They have increased compression, reduced channel bandwith and increased pricing consistently through the years. The problem we (new JGC owners) have is that our vehicle uses not only the radio but three different services from SERIUSXM. Satellite Radio (we know about that and it includes Internet Radio), Travel-link (gives you a menu with weather, gas prices, movies etc... in the area - I can live without it), and XM-traffic which layers your navigation map with traffic information including route jam avoidance (I would hate losing that). With such an extensive subscription package, bargaining with them becomes a bitch.

My understanding is that the uconnect cost also provides the data for the built in apps (but not the hot spot) if this is correct and you listen to a lot of Pandora like I do it would be worth it to me because it gets the load off my own data plan where I already have to pick and choose to avoid going over. I would not pay for Sirius any more, loved it when it came out but the sound is below my mp3s now and I've no interest in the talk.

No it's not. The vehicle cell radio is low bandwidth 3g radio. It will work ok for low consumption web usage like yelp or bing, but when you talk streaming it will not work. For Pandora you need what Uconnect calls "Via Mobile" which is basically an app on your phone that lets Uconnect feed off your high-bandwidth 4g phone for streaming (and obviously clocking your data plan).

I just get Pandora, iHeart or whatever through my phone and use the bluetooth connection to play it through the car radio. No extra cost above what I already pay for my phone's data plan. You don't get the apps and traffic on Uconnect, but that is ok with me.

Did you have to do anything else (besides pairing the phone) to get the Bluetooth to play Pandora from your phone? My phone is paired and makes/receives calls perfectly as well as voice text but I can not get the Jeep to play Pandora from my phone. I have Bluetooth enabled on the phone and the Jeep with the phone output all the way up and silence.

There are two ways to connect the phone, both are on the Media screen in Uconnect. My preferred way is to select Bluetooth on the media screen assuming your phone is also paired as a audio/media device as well as a phone. You can use this method to play mp3s stored on your phone as well as audio output from any app running on your phone. It is a little weird as I find I have to touch the "play" button on the screen, but I guess that makes sense. The low tech method is to get a 1/8" male-to-male stereo patch cable and physically connect the phone to the car's mini-stereo jack input by the SD card slot and then select Aux on the Media screen. You then have to control everything directly on the phone as the phone thinks you are listening through headphones. Hope this helps.

The manual says uConnect has these apps to buy and that you can use "via mobile" to use your phones data plan for Pandora, slacker, etc. However, the only app you can buy in the store is WiFi hotspot and via mobile currently is not available.

I agree that Sirius quality is so poor that I prefer almost any other source. Sprint still gives unlimited data if you really want to use your phone. However, if you own the music already why not just use your iPod or copy the music to an SD card that stays in the vehicle? Local HD radio sounds excellent and I think we will do iPod or SD card for trips.

Using my iphone I can't seem to get it to stick to my preferred playlist when using bluetooth... it seems to use all the songs and ignore playlists. When I plug it in to the USB port the playlists are clearly selectable and I can even use VR to select the one I want. I have not used the Aux port yet.
