I drove the road pretty slowly (15-25 mph) and I was very surprised by the amount of banging noise coming from the suspension. I tried various combinations (sand, rock, off road 1 & 2) and nothing seemed to make it much better. Is this normal? I've had a couple of other SUVs (an old Isuzu Trooper and a Mercedes ML320) and neither of them made this much noise on dirt roads. The ride isn't bad, although it doesn't "float" over the bumps the way I thought it might, but the noise is surprising.
I experienced the exact same thing in my Overland with air suspension. I first noticed it driving on pavement down a street with speed humps (slightly taller and wider than speed bumps). I could hit these things in my 4Runner at about 35 mph and it would suck them up like a sponge with barely a hint of noise. Tried doing that with my Jeep the other day and the shocks made a tremendous noise. Had to slow down to about 20 mph to reduce the noise, which I guess is the point of those speed humps anyway ;-)

Yesterday I went 4 wheeling for the first time and not surprisingly had the same loud thunking noise on some of the bumps and ruts I hit at speed. As you say the ride isn't bad but it sure makes one hell of a loud noise. It sounds like the noise comes when the shocks are springing back not during compression, but I could be wrong. I've got just under 1K miles on Overland. Anyone else have the same experience?

When I pick it up I will let you know if they were able to fix it. However, the part to repair my SFU is not due in till Jan. so it may be a while. Please let me know if you get an answer before then. Thanks.

Worked as a line crewman for years when I was younger, never seen this before but it looks good!

I can confirm I have the same banging noise issue with the front suspension rebound. It is a export Diesel with QL and a build date of mid Sept.

It was reported by a Truck magazine review and confirmed by the Aussie's that the QL tops out when in the higher lift positions. I've heard it in mine just driving around my motocross track. I have not noticed any major clunking but the ride is pretty firm compared to my previous 09 Murano LE.

On the one hand, I'm somewhat comforted by the fact that another owner has had similar experiences to mine (I too have noticed the speed-bump banging, and I agree that the noises seem more associated with rebound than compression). It means that perhaps there's nothing wrong with my Jeep (or at least nothing that I have to fix).

On the other hand, I'm quite surprised that this hasn't been a more prominent topic of discussion on the Forum. I don't plan to do much serious "offroading" in my GC, but I do plan to do considerable off-pavement driving. This thing is loud enough to scare dogs and small children--it will certainly alarm my wife. It's loud enough that I worry I'm going to break something! I've already had one vehicle break down in the middle of Baja and I definitely don't want that to happen again (I was fortunate to be towing a Rhino at the time, which saved our bacon). I guess the question I have now is this: Has anyone driven their GC with QL off pavement (or off road) and NOT noticed the loud banging noises?

Found this TSA dated October 25th while looking for other things. http://wk2jeeps.com/tsb/tsb_wk2_0804913e.pdf Sounds like this update may help your phone issue.

Cool. Where do you find these bulletins? Seems like they'd be useful to owners as well as technicians. I'll be making an appointment one of these days...

FYI, Big Cyber Monday sale at Chemical Guys. Shannon and I used their products to detail our SFUs. I especially like the EcoSmart cleaning solution. It washes, waxes and shines in one step. I have used it after the detailing to do a quick waterless wash and it works great. You can do a quick wash in your garage without hoses and buckets. Anyway, the 1 gal of concentrate (vs the 1 gal ready-to-use) is normally $149/gal. Today it is $89 plus they have an additional 15% off coupon for today only. The concentrate will make over 8 gals of cleaner.

I also love their dual action sprayers. Very slick. I would recommend one of those also. They have a .5 liter and 1 liter bottle. If you don't already have a good supply of micro fiber towels, you can buy them also at Chemical Guys or your local auto store.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

hey guys 2 quick questions for you..

My Limited has the ORA 1 package...I have a round "Trail Rated" badge on the left side but none on the right. Do they only come with one or did they forgot to put one on the passenger side??

My DEF gauge did something weird...my truck was filled 100% with DEF when I picked it up so that was fine; then about a week and 1000 miles later the gauge still showed 100% but the arc bar graph disappeared from the gauge for several starts. I cycled through the settings and all but that didn't bring it back it came back after a start up.. I thought that was weird the bars disappearing but I guess it was just a fluke...odd though

Pretty sure one badge is standard. I've got an Overland with ORII and it's only got a single trail rated badge on the driver's side.
