With 1300 miles my oil life is now showing 62%. Far cry from the expected 10,000 miles. I also had to add a quart this morning. I'm a bit concerned about this and will have to keep an eye on it. The oil still looks very clean. DEF is up around 80 - 90 %.

Don't worry about the oil consumption. This is expected. All my MBs consumed at least a liter and a half of oil between changes. All went 2500000 km and were sold still going strong. This is why the low ash oil is specd. They know some of it ends up in the exhaust and a regular formula will clog the emissions systems

Certainly it would be easy enough to tell. Do a tank of highway mileage and you should see somewhere in the upper 20s. Don't reset the average and follow with a tank of city driving and you should see about 24 on the average. If it's low 20s that means miles are being dropped. This is how the Cummins boys tumbled to it and eventually they got an answer from Chrysler over on the TDR, 300.
Check the mileage on the Trip A, Trip B vs. the real time display. They are all different. Seems to me the trip displays show consumption for the mileage logged on that trip display individually, even if 1000's of kms. My numbers support this directly.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Just completed a 1350 trip from Houston to the beautiful Florida Keys in my new white summit diesel. First I am VERY proud to have purchased an American car even if so many great countries contributed.

Briefly I am updating from a 2007 Jeep Commander 4.7 which I did not like but was a wonderful tow car behind our motorhome and has 100,000 trouble free miles. My last "wonderful" car was a MB 300 TD which I loved and put 220000 miles on it but it could not be towed.
The 2014 is beyond what I expected - that diesel is fast and fun to drive. This 1350 trip in 2 days (with a bad back) was only possible because the car is so comfortable. I love the engine, transmission is smooth but the best part no faults. After the drive the oil is at 92%, the DEF is around 85%. I drove 9+ over the speed limit the whole trip with mileage at 26.7. I briefly had it up to 90+ entering a road before I realized how fast it was going. Cruise Control is necessary for me.

The cruise control is a trip. I was so mad when the car started slowing in traffic without to realize the ACC was working. That really makes driving route 1 in the Keys really fun and it does stops the car (had to try it)!!!

Just so the people at Jeep do not get a swollen head the steering wheel controls need some type of nipple so at night you can figure out where you are. The whole thing is smooth and you have to look to find the right button which is not great and I would like a little more bolster in the seats.

I have always loved Diesels but this combo is the best and I am so glad I waited.
Lastly Mark in Houston did a great job of getting me out in 1 1/2 hours with everything complete. Thanks you Jeep garage for tracking my car, getting me a great deal and to the Jeep people for building a car you can all be very proud of

Now at 1975 miles and oil life showing 73%. DEF is still showing 100% so I suspect something is wrong with the level sensor, although the bar is down to the 3/4 level. My oil doe not look that clean to me. It's not opaque but it is dark brown translucent.

Took a lead from you and started calling around for Mobil 1 ESP 5W30 or Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W30. Tried Pep Boys, Advance Auto Parts, NAPA, all with no luck. Was just about resigned to go the Amazon online option when I decided to try my dealer.

They had the Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W30, and sold me two quarts for $6.60 per quart!

Pleasantly surprised.

Just to add another data point:

I now have 2000 miles on the Jeep. I checked the oil level after the jeep had set for an hour and the dipstick showed full. I then checked it at the gas station just after turning the engine off and the dipstick showed 1/4 quart low. The oil color is now dark brown. My EVIC is showing 65% oil life left. My DEF level is around 80% (after I added 5.0 gal of DEF when I picked up the Jeep from the dealer).

You can get the Mobil 1 ESP on Ebay for not too bad. After shipping, came to $9.70/liter (ordered 12-pack).

Yep, but are the miles dropping off the back? Thats the question, as of a couple of years ago this was the case with the trucks. Whether its true here and now with this car, I don't know.

I think it just shows 0% at one end and 100% at the other end of the scale all the time and that you have to just look at the bar and estimate how far down it is. Would be nice if it actually displayed % full.

Although you definitely want to keep track of your oil consumption I wouldn't worry too much about having to add a quart - especially on a new breaking-in engine. You probably add a few quarts in between oil changes on the big 6 cylinder Conti in the "Bo" And even though auto engines are modern marvels compared to the archaic, air cooled, fixed timing GA piston powerplants, it's not uncommon to have to add some oil. It makes me think the only thing better than driving an EcoDiesel would be flying a Jet-A burning diesel powerplant - no ROP/LOP decisions (or debates) and mixture fiddeling, 100% power to at least 10,000+ft thanks to the turbo, no "hot start" headaches, and a miserly fuel burn compared to 100LL. Although with a single lever engine control, while I wouldn't miss the mixture knob, I think I would miss pulling the prop lever back to 'climb', and then 'cruise', RPM.

I recommend everyone check with their dealer's parts department. Mine sold me Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W30 for $6.60 / quart, although the list price was over $13. I bought two quarts to carry in the JGC.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

About those pesky accidental in pocket key fob commands... I'm wondering if there has been a running change in the key fobs because both of mine have extremely stiff buttons. I go through a lot of cars and these are the stiffest I've encountered, it would not be easy to get accidental button presses in pocket with them. Anyone else that picked up a car recently seeing the same?
