Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Sometimes fate makes your decisions for you ... Since I first placed my order for my SFU on 8/9 I've been debating which tires to put on - P vs LT, which brand and what size. Early on I had settled on the Wrangler All-terrain Adventures for the brand, but kept waffling on P vs LT and size. I finally narrowed it down to P. While I wanted the slightly higher profile of the 265/65R18, I wasn't sure if there would be an appreciable impact on all of the various electronics (besides the obvious speed/mileage being off) due to the different size so decided to be conservative and stick with stock.

Well, as fate would have it, the supplier shipped the wrong tire. Even though the store ordered the 265/60s, they sent the 265/65s. So I said "what the heck, put 'em on".

Two days later I loaded up the SO and kids into the SFU and headed up to the mountains.

This was the first real trip with the SFU and it acquitted itself quite admirably. The drive was very pleasant and everything worked flawlessly. Two very nice advantages to the diesel: 1) With the lower RPMs the SO thought we were going slower than we really were. 2) With the staggering range, I was able to go from SF to Tahoe, drive around a bunch and get home without filling up, which meant not having to pay the $0.30/gal extra that stations in and around tahoe charge.

And somewhat ironically, due to the fact that Tahoe didn't have as much snow as normal for this time of year, I got to put 'er through some slick and somewhat difficult offroad paces. We wanted to find a nice sledding spot for the kids, so I started doing some exploring and wound up on a poorly-maintained, narrow dirt road that was a fun mix of mud, ice, snow and rocks. The Jeep and the new tires did quite admirably, making conditions that are typically pretty trying seem fairly trivial.

Here you can glimpse her hiding out in her natural habitat.

Now that I've had some decent time with it and used it in a variety of scenarios, I'm going to finally finish doing my review in the Owners's thread. But if you want the Cliff Notes - it has exceeded my expectations!

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Not sure if I count as an owner yet, since mine is in pieces at the factory still, but put an order in on the 20th for an Limited in Maximum Steel with Black interior, ORAII and 8.4AN. Can't wait to put it through it's paces, already looking at slightly larger/more aggressive tires and some accessories for mild off-roading/Overlanding.

I'm with crabman... can't figure out how to "thank" someone for an informative post. Netboy, can you link to the info you found on what sensors are in these systems? I wasn't aware rear radar sensors were part of the package... other than the sensors used for blindspot/crosspath detection. Do the sensors actually look TO the rear as well - and factor in a tailgaiter in the automatic braking algorithm?

Edit: OK, found a site with info on the Bosch systems: http://www.bosch-automotivetechnolog...html?compId=77

While it's inconclusive in answering my question, I do note that the rear mid-range radar sensors have a 150-degree field of view... so it's possible that the system takes a tailgater into consideration when applying the brakes for you in a FCW scenario.

For those of you with Apple iOS devices like iPads and phones there is a free Mopar Owner's Companion app available for download on the App Store. The app contains vehicle operation and maintenance literature and videos in addition to some helpful utilities such as a parking reminder. Not a replacement for the Owner's Manual or User's Guide but not bad as a quick reference.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

I looked a little further into this since I have some background on sensors.
This is a 76-77 GHz MMW TR and is in the W band. 70GHz does a good job of not being attenuated by rain so they got as close to it as possible since the US set those frequencies as acceptable for this intended use.
Here is more information on the MMW system.
http://www.path.berkeley.edu/PATH/Pu.../PRR-97-19.pdf

I was not aware that we had this system but it makes good sense because this high a frequency provided very good resolution and from what I read a 1M squared is what is required for a man size target for recognition.

I am still digging into what Beechjetdriver provided to see what the EO system is.

I have to do something because my ride is stuck at the factory since 18 DEC and this distracts me...

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Happy New Year everyone! I'm starting out the New Year with my first post. I am glad to have found you guys. I've been googling "Jeep Diesel" news for the past 3 months. I've learned more about my Jeep from reading all 80+ pages of this thread over the past two weeks. In fact, I was traveling home to central IL from MI over Christmas when my DEF light came on. I freaked out a bit because I assumed that it was full when I purchased it. I didn't even realize that the level could be checked in the EVIC. Thank you guys for the info!

I purchased my Overland EcoDiesel ORA2 on 12/3/13 with 10 miles. I have almost 3400 miles on it now. No problems whatsoever. I drive 75% highway at speeds of about 72 mph with temps averaging mid 20's. I am averaging 25.6 mpg according to EVIC. Not too shabby! I'm hoping for a 500,000 miles. Stay tuned...

Welcome to the forum.
I have followed this journey of Jeep putting the 3.0 VM diesel in for well over a year. My ride just got released from the factory so in a few weeks I hope to be able to post my experience as well.

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

Lots of us have been watching the kettle brew from the first announcement. I remember standing at the dealer back in June just before I went up North to work and him telling me, "We're just not sure what the hold up is..." I assumed at the time when I got back home in October whatever this hold up had been it would have long since been solved and there would be many owner impressions available to me as I reentered the world. I was wrong. lol

Re: Welcome ALL 2014+ Jeep Grand Cherokee Ecodiesel owners!

3000 Mile Review: This is a duplicate post...Also posted this on the thread Chevy created...So if you are following both I apologize!

Technology... Love it all! It works!
ACC is flawless, sometimes I get behind someone and do not realize I have slowed...It is a little aggressive on returning to set speed as I move to another open lane but I love it!
Automatic low beam lights...they just work!
Lights following your turns...sweet!
Key FOB in pocket opening doors...Wife loves this!
Blind spot and cross path...I'll never be without it again!
Back-up Camera... works great just keep it clean!

Engine and Transmission:
She just pulls. 3.0 and eight gears who knew you could get so much. Strong head winds, no problem stays in 8. River valley hills, she likes 8th. Happy, Happy, Happy!
Mileage...I was hoping for an honest 25mpg. She does better... 3000 miles and a calculated 25.8 average with a mix of #2 with additive, 70/20 blend and lately a70/30 blend of #2/#1...I also add my own additive with most fills...This is South Dakota and temperature swings of 30-40 degrees just happen!

The trip mileage is spot on with actual or within 0.1 and most of the time.! ...GM take a note and get it right!

Diesel Exhaust fluid is still above 50%

Oil monitor is at 71% 90% highway... Planning a oil change at 3500 miles after that I will change at 50% or soon after 5000 miles...Sorry just fussy about clean happy engines!

The Jeep is a quiet, solid, comfortable ride and drive. I have owned many nice suburbans and have no plans to go back! This is my first Jeep...It will not be my last! Overall I give this Summit a 9.5...

PS: I hooked up my utility trailer and lights did not work...The lights worked on the suburban that I used to pull it just moments before but when connected to the Jeep nothing???? Take it to the dealer or did I miss something I need to do to activate the trailer light connector?????

If your on the fence as to buy this diesel or not, Stop Thinking and go for it you will never look back!

Did you go with 5 tires or 4?

I am thinking of the 265X65 as well.

I've got the exact same tires... I went with 4. I figure the differential can handle it long enough to get me to a shop.
