Just for the fun of it, I plugged in the ScanGauge and did a 0-60 run with the performance monitor. I did 4 runs (in sport mode) and got a consistent 7.4 seconds each time. Obviously not the same as taking it to the track, but it's an SUV ... does 0-60 really matter that much?

With the extra weight of the ORA2 plates, the 4x4, the weight of a 3/4 full gas tank, and the fact that the engine is still very new likely means that better times can probably be had with say a 4x2 limited, especially after several thousand miles.

I don't care too much about 0-60 - for me it's more about the butt dyno and whether it can do what I want onroad and offroad (which it most certainly can based on my driving so far) - but I was curious so thought I'd do a run. And 7.4 definitely is not shabby for a heavy SUV, especially one that can get upwards of 30MPG.

I gotta say, I'm really impressed with the audio in the Summit. I've got a '08 Infiniti G35x with the upgraded sound and it kicks ass. While car shopping I tried out the upgraded sound on the Audi Q7 and it didn't do as well as my 5 year old Infiniti. That being said, the audio in the Summit blows the doors off both my Infiniti ad the Audi (I think it was the Bose system).

Yes, Nissan/Infinity use Bose. I had an 01 Maxima and 08 G37 and while the system was acceptable it didn't really blow your socks off. Actually I thought the Maxima was a little better of the two I owned. I haven't really tested out the Summit yet, SXM is pretty faint so will have to test a few files on the phone but the HK system was one of the reasons I went with the Summit. The other day on my long commute to work I actually had to sit on a call so didn't get to play with the radio. I will say the integration of the phone is pretty nice and volume was ok even at hwy speed.

So I might have a slight problem but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this. Yesterday when going up a pretty steep hill I could hear/feel what I would describe as a pulsating noise coming from the drivers front wheel. I wrote it off as maybe a little wheel slippage and maybe the ABS was kicking in. But today I noticed it again while just driving, mainly at low speed and seems like it does it more on hills. I'll investigate further tomorrow but just wanted to get it out an see what you all thought? Also, on about 250 miles so far, I'm at about 22 MPG and I would estimate that as 80/20 hwy/city. I know it's way to early in the game to worry about MPG but hearing everyone else with 28-30 just seems a little odd.

#643 ·
I'm at about 22 - 23mpg at just over 1/2 tank left on my first tank. Lots of short trips, which is my typical driving, with some urban freeway driving. So I'm not surprised, but need to wait till I fill it to get an accurate read. My only issue so far is the Uconnect screen popping up saying "Vehicle Phone Requires Servicing - Contact Dealer". Twice now in two days. If it continues I'll have to have the dealer look at it.

At the dealer - topping off the DEF, state inspection sticker and a wash. Getting an average 23.6 MPG commuting into Boston. Stop and go traffic, with some highway mixed in. So far so good.

For those of you smelling an odor when the engine is hot this is not the Urea which is odorless. There is something going on with the new coolant and a smell from contact with certain rubber hoses. There is no need to panic, other than the unusual smell there is no side effects to the system.

They are investigating the issue to see what needs to be done. Had some discussions with a few people about this as I know from experience that these engines do not smell after 300 miles.

#667 ·
I've gotten this twice I think. It literally smells like exhaust is being pumped into the cabin or something. It made my eyes water and I ended up having to crack a window. Both times it happened in prolonged bumper to bumper traffic. Hasn't happened in about a week though, both times happened the first week after picking it up.

Anyone yet have experience with the stock Michelin Latitude Tour tires (18 inch wheels) in the snow (and willing to give an opinion)?

#661 ·
We just had snow and ice in Minnesota the other day, and I tried and tried to get the Jeep to spin out, but wouldn't (but watched a lot of others spinning out). I live on top of a hill, and there are 2 ways to get up - a short steep hill, or a long gradual hill. A lot of people could not get up the steep hill. I went up and down like there was no ice. No spinning, and no loss of traction. I am most happy with the stock tires so far. The snow wan't deep, but there was a half inch layer of ice on the roads. The ABS is nice and quiet compared to Jeeps I have had in the past, and stop on ice very well. Will post more when we get a bigger snow.

Made the mistake of trying to wash my new ride this morning when it was 7F outside. The water was freezing on the car faster than I could wipe it off. Oh well. We had some snow a couple nights a go and it got dirty. Oh No! It's supposed to hit 38 on Monday. Shannon and I are going to have a detailing party then in the heated hangar. Should be very exciting:)

I know with BMW the car looks at RPM, temp, trip time/distance, engine hours, and possibly other factors. I was wondering if it has an early 1st service interval? I didn't see anything about it in the manual but I've already seen quite a lot of things mentioned here that I missed when perusing the various tomes.

#680 ·
According to the owners manual, "The “Oil Change Required” message will flash in the EVIC display for approximately 10 seconds after a single chime has sounded, to indicate the next scheduled oil change interval. The engine oil change indicator system is duty cycle based, which means the engine oil change interval may fluctuate, dependent upon your personal driving style."

That's similar to the two BMWs and one Mercedes Benz we've owned. Your oil change interval depends on how you drive and your driving conditions.

My style is fairly conservative: no hard acceleration, and mostly driving in Eco Mode with about half my miles on the freeway and the other half on secondary roads.

Oil change required is not the same as oil life in the EVIC and it might be that the two are not synchronized with each other.

I think I'll abide by the oil change required message and hope the oil life indicator is wrong and gets a software update. How could my oil life have been down to 94% with only 14 miles at delivery?

I may be the first to get a MIL light that persist. No, it wasn't from the Bluespark. I bought a Scanguage2 which displayed a B2AAA code. I like the configurable display so I'm keeping it but that code basically means the scanner doesn't understand the actual code and would not reset it. I returned to Autozone and their Actron Scanner said it was missions exhaust related. Their reset worked.

I immediately went out on the interstate and run 80 in 7th gear (2500 rpm) for 20 miles. FYI, the turbo makes 5 psi of boost at 80 and it appears that 15 psi is near the limit. My powerstroke makes 33 psi at WOT.

So...it was most likely DPF related. I am guilty of idling a lot since I work from my "car office" all day. I was asking for it with extended idle times over an hour. Lesson learned!

Also, I never saw any warning to regen or anything unless I missed it.

I am hearing a lot about snow getting packed into the wheel wells. Wondering if anyone has put anything on the wells to help reduce/eliminate this problem?

#671 · (Edited)
I have used PAM spray on my Subaru before in a pinch(wax would be ideal)...not the most ideal solution but worked well on plastic and a general degreaser cleaned it up (however this is with plain old plastic inner fenders.

Also, I religiously wax my door jambs to ensure no water stays and freezes between the jamb and the door seal...prevents early morning/very cold theatrics during the winter with stuck doors.

Just discovered something I can't believe I missed when I took delivery. The Passenger front door handle was badly installed - seems like the installer missed a guidance pin and there is a huge gap between the handle and the door. Make sure you check your door handles to fit snugly to the door body.
The saga continues...

The dealer ordered a new door handle and it finally got in yesterday. He tried to install it today and discovered that... the door frame is warped where the handle is attached which is why it can not be properly attached. It will need to go to the body shop on Monday. I'm beyond mad. How can a $60K vehicle roll off production (with the 100% famous inspection) with a warped sheet metal defect that is absolutely visible during final visual inspection, and still pass everything and end up needing a repair in a dealer's body shop?

Next chapter:
After 4 days at the dealer's body shop my SFU finally has a properly attached door handle. Problem now is that while disassembling the door, the shop broke the door trim panel clips. This is a common thing while pulling out a panel, and the Chrysler trim removal document recommends discarding the clips and replacing them. Obviously the dealer didn't, and the panel is now only partially attached. Back to the dealer tomorrow.

So picked up our SFU wed, had Pro-tect film installed and drove it home from Las Vegas to the central coast of Cali. 28mpg doing 75! Got home around 8pm and stayed up playing with the settings/gadgets. I'm trying to sinc the individual key fobs to the seat/wheel/mirror memory for my wife's and for mine but the manual is relatively confusing. Has anyone been able do this and have some tips?

It works fine for me. You should follow the owner's manual (not owner's guide) on page 161 (rev 5). The process involves first programming the memory (either 1 or 2), then linking a specific keyfob to a memory preset:

A. Program a memory preset:
1. Press the START/STOP button twice to the RUN position WITHOUT pressing on the break.
2. Adjust your Jeep's features for liking (seats, wheel, presets etc...).
3. Press the S button on the driver's door and release.
4. Within 5 seconds press and release either button 1 or 2.

This stored your preferences in memory. You can recall them by pressing buttons 1 or 2 anytime.

B. Now you might want to link one of your keyfobs to a memory preset:
1. Sit in your Jeep's driver seat with the doors closed and the keyfob you want to link in your hand.
2. Make sure your Jeep START/STOP mode is OFF!!!
3. Recall the memory preset you want to link by pressing and releasing either button 1 or 2.
4. Press the S button and release.
5. Within 10 seconds, press and release the LOCK button on your keyfob.

To test, move the driver seat position around so it will not match the preset setting, then press the UNLOCK keyfob button. The seat will move back to its preset position.

Didi that, no go.
Just did a Uconnect reboot, no difference, Uconnect reset, no difference, and didn't effect memory presets.

I can't un program the key I have to see if I can re program it to position 1.
That could be a confirmation that it's a key issue.

I have the exact same issue. Can program position 2 but not position 1. Very strange.

Here are pictures of the Key Fob cover that I just had delivered from Amazon. I bought this after the truck started from the start button accidentally being pressed twice while in my pocket. I still set panic alarms off every now and then with my other fob, I just don't like the idea of being able to start the vehicle by accident in the garage or open the trunk by accident in a parking lot. The first could be dangerous to a child in a garage and the second would allow someone into your truck while you aren't aware that the trunk is open.

Amazon.com: iJDMTOY 3D Carbon Fiber Pattern Genuine Premium Leather Remote Smart Key Holder FOB (2.8" x 1.9"): Automotive

Pluses:
-It seems as though this fob cover will prevent starting the truck by accident from a pocket push.
-It is large enough to fit the fob
-It has a separate key chain attachment so you don't have to hand your house keys to a valet.

negatives:
-Slightly larger than I would have liked. Although, I don't think that a smaller one would fit the fob as it is pretty large. To get something with a sleeker fit, I think it would take a custom fob cover. I wish Jeep would make one.
-My wife thinks that it has a nerd look to it. Although, she thinks that about many of the things that I wear and use.
-V-Tail ordered a different type and design of cover. He may like his more. Anyway, the photos are below.

Couple pics from the Shannon-Vtail detailing center. We spent most of the day doing a get-it-ready-for-winter detailing on our SFUs. We washed them at the coin op, then a waterless wash, then clay bar, another waterless wash, applied JetSeal109 paint sealant, buffed it out, cleaned the wheel rims and applied JetSeal and finished with VRP tire dressing. Went pretty well, just takes a lot of time....

ps. found my block heater cord. We looked at Shannon's and followed the plug to where it connects to the engine. Then followed it back from the engine to the plug on mine. It was hanging down below and behind the radiator coolant tank well out of sight. We routed it up and tie-wrapped it for future use. Yeah!

Getting pushback on making good on defects

Off to the dealer tomorrow to take care of my punchlist. Will post the result.
Dealer's Service Manager updated by UConnect to 13.38.52 and installed wheel locks that I purchased.

However, he is saying that the distance the rear driver's door extends beyond the body, about 3/16", falls within Jeep/Chrysler's dimensional limit specs for gaps/flush fits. Says the same for the Liftgate which extends beyond the body about 3X further on the driver's side, 0.108", than on the passenger side, 0.040". Ditto for the variance in the gaps between the body taillamp and lift gate taillamp assemblies, 0.187" on driver's side vs 0.110" on passenger side.

I was given a copy of the dimensional specification that I will scan and post after I've had a chance to compare my measurements with the specs.
