Ive received several requests for a separate forum....and you guys know I like to give the members what they want! So here ya go.....a forum for our new ecodiesel community!
It was reported by a Truck magazine review and confirmed by the Aussie's that the QL tops out when in the higher lift positions. I've heard it in mine just driving around my motocross track. I have not noticed any major clunking but the ride is pretty firm compared to my previous 09 Murano LE.
FYI, Big Cyber Monday sale at Chemical Guys. Shannon and I used their products to detail our SFUs. I especially like the EcoSmart cleaning solution. It washes, waxes and shines in one step. I have used it after the detailing to do a quick waterless wash and it works great. You can do a quick wash in your garage without hoses and buckets. Anyway, the 1 gal of concentrate (vs the 1 gal ready-to-use) is normally $149/gal. Today it is $89 plus they have an additional 15% off coupon for today only. The concentrate will make over 8 gals of cleaner. http://www.chemicalguys.com/EcoSmart_Waterless_Wash_and_Detailing_System_p/wac_707.htm
I also love their dual action sprayers. Very slick. I would recommend one of those also. They have a .5 liter and 1 liter bottle. If you don't already have a good supply of micro fiber towels, you can buy them also at Chemical Guys or your local auto store.
My Limited has the ORA 1 package...I have a round "Trail Rated" badge on the left side but none on the right. Do they only come with one or did they forgot to put one on the passenger side??
My DEF gauge did something weird...my truck was filled 100% with DEF when I picked it up so that was fine; then about a week and 1000 miles later the gauge still showed 100% but the arc bar graph disappeared from the gauge for several starts. I cycled through the settings and all but that didn't bring it back it came back after a start up.. I thought that was weird the bars disappearing but I guess it was just a fluke...odd though

First short road trip in the new Jeep this evening. Snowing like crazy and my SO has a concert 70 miles from home. Good excuse to exercise the SFU. I reset the EVIC mpg readout and when we got here it showed 32.5mpg. After cruising through town, stopping at Wendy's for some cuisine, by the time we got to the concert venue it was reading 31.5mpg. I'm impressed, especially considering the road conditions and the slow traffic in some places. It probably helped that I don't think I went over 55mph.
Also noticed a few interesting things. I got a warning that the ACC/FCW weren't available and to wipe off the radar sensor. I assume it was covered with slop/slush. When driving through town my left forward proximity sensor bleeped red a few times. I am guessing that had some slush on it as well. The other thing was I had the wipers on a slow intermittent setting, then every once in a while they'd go fast for a few swipes across the windshield, then back to intermittent. Automatic rain sensor wiper kicking in? Oh, one more thing. When I started the trip I put the Select Terrain in Snow mode. I noticed the tranny never went higher than 7th gear. Put it in Auto after a while and then it went into 8th. I didn't realize those settings apparently limit the speed or at least the allowed tranny gear. I'm guessing from this experience that Snow mode isn't for roads that are relatively clear but more for going through deeper snow?
Glad I have my iPad and wifi while I sit here for a few hours, then get to drive back home...
For those of you who may not have seen this on the Uconnect thread, thieves breaking into cars with some kind of electronic device. http://youtu.be/l7OadDz3Ums
This has been discussed in another thread on the forum, but I wanted to find out the opinion of our SFU family. If you use either the RKE or the handle button to lock your jeep while a door is open, the electronics will gladly lock all doors and will not give you any visual or auditory indication that the vehicle is not fully secured. This is the only vehicle I owned that does that. All my previous vehicles either refused to lock the doors and announce it (horn/lights) or give you a distinctive horn chirp. Any thoughts? Are there any advantages you can think of for such behavior?
Same here. You can leave the trunk door open and still lock the car and the car will not give you any notice or refuse to lock. I once almost left my Summit in a parking lot with the trunk wide open...
Just wanted to get everyone's attention to two new TSB's:
1. Poor SiriusXM reception.
I noticed this almost from the get-go. Compared to my Honda XM radio, the SFU reception was bad. Looks like I did not imagine this. The shark-fin antenna is bad and needs to be replaced: Poor Sirius Satellite Radio Reception
2. Diesel Exhaust Fluid
This is an information only TSB, but nonetheless is clearing out the guess work of whether the dealer is supposed to top-off DEF: Diesel Exhaust Fluid

I was looking around underneath my Jeep last night and noticed a few corroded parts. Specifically the driveshaft at the joint about mid-body and a few larger bolts towards the rear. Vehicle rolled off the line on 2 Oct, Sat for 6 weeks, and I've been driving it for 3. Plenty of moisture, but no salt or snow exposure.
I'll put it in jack mode and take a more thorough look tomorrow, but curious if/what others are seeing.
Just thought I would share a problem I just had. We had a winter storm here yesterday, and my Jeep was covered in snow. It sat in the garage last night, and most of the snow melted off. Today, my wife and I went shopping. On the way home, I decided to fuel the Jeep, as it is going to be below zero for the next few days. At the gas station, I pushed the button to pop the fuel door open, and the door was frozen shut. I pressed on the door, and kept pressing the button, but it would not open. I kept going back and forth between the button and the door, trying to work the door open. I had to have my wife press the button at the same time I hooked my fingernails in the small gap around the fuel door, and pried it open. Lucky my wife was with, as this was a two person job. Just thought I would let everyone know incase you run into the same problem.
Picked up my SFU..full DEF, no alignment issues, need to update UCONNECT but love it already.
Been up since 4pm so I need some Zzzz's....more to follow.
I am sure I am not the last to say it nor can I convey the sincerity but THANKS to the JNAP crew, Willx, Milous, and all you others for making the wait bearable.

I bought diesel additive and want to get another emergency filler adapter (same thing used for gas can located in spare).
I want another so I can just keep it in the garage and not have to dig it out and clean it every time I fuel up. I am and have been scouring the internet but haven't found anything yet.
Would any of the guru's of all things Jeep know the part #?

Is diesel fuel additive really needed? My wife has had her 2009 Jetta TDI for 4 years now in MN, and no problems. Is the CRD different? How do you know which additives are really good and helpful vs those that are just snake oil? I've read that some can even harm the emissions system.
Normally I wouldn't use one but I did a good amount of searching and found some testing data. I did make sure the one I got was safe on urea/DPF systems
The only reason I am considering it is I work shift work and there is nowhere to plug in a engine heater. To pile on top of that, 20 mph winds are basically a daily thing to deal with at work. I have seen -15F to -20F multiple times during the winter so I want to have all the bases covered.
My main target was something to prevent gelling but if it boosts my cetane (mainly an issue with winter blends) then I have no complaints. Ideally it will give me better MPGs but my main target is reliable starting.
Lots of snake oil and a few good ones out there - most info is on the web.
I have worked on diesels and all there components as long as I can remember,
the older injection systems are more forgiving to bad fuel compared to the new HP common rail systems, and the diesel fuel quality in the US really sucks.
ULSD fuel is treated with the lubricity and/or other premium additives prior to the delivery to the service stations.
I have seen 5 cases that destroyed pumps and injectors because the lubricity additive did not get added to the fuel, laboratory fuel testing confirmed this.
Does it happen a lot ??? - I do not know.
The additive I use will bring untreated fuel to the above minimum ASTM specs for lubricity just in case I do get a bad tank full, and it claims a rise in cetane and improves cold flow down to minus 20 for #2 diesel, and MPG gains that I can not yet prove.
I have 2500 miles on mine now, 2300 mile high speed (70-80 MPH 85%)trip over Thankgiving from WA to WY to WA, 26.74 MPG, 2.6 Gal DEF actual, EVIC is very optimistic on the MPG.
No issues with my vw passat tdi for the past 8 years either. It has been -30 here the past few days (that's without the windchill) and the passst has fired up no problem everytime. I'll let you know how the jeep does as soon as I get it. My delivery date has unfortunately been pushed back another week.
I'm using Shell V-Power diesel, it's premium diesel. Will that have additives to prevent gelling? Also, don't see how block heater would deal with gelling issue, doesn't block heater just keep radiator fluid warm?
I'm in Canada as well and have been driving diesels for 20 years. Before Common Rail injection became the norm I would always fuel up with a couple of liters of premium gasoline on an empty tank and then fill to the top with diesel. Do not do this now! Nowadays you can pretty much be sure that wherever you buy diesel it will be formulated to that region's weather. It's just not an issue anymore. Now if you filled up in Florida and had your vehicle towed to MN you might want to put in some diesel conditioner, otherwise don't give it a second thought.., btw even summer blends of diesel won't gel until -10 C or colder.
thanks guys for the feedback on the Trail Rated badge and DEF gauge...
btw, does anyone know the capacity of the DEF tank? I didn't see any official spec on it, just curious.
I'm at about 1600 miles and my DEF shows 100% but is down almost one full bar now on the gauge, I wonder what the increments of the percentage gauge are, maybe it will go right to 80% soon??...not that it really matters though. It will be interesting to see how many miles people get from the DEF tank as the months go by now with all our EcoDiesels racking up the miles
Installed 4 mud flaps today just in time for the weather! My front doors were getting pretty dirty; the flaps should help with the Nitto Terra Grapplers I'll be putting on soon

I think I read in a review somewhere that the DEF tank holds 8.5 gallons. I'm still showing 100 percent at about 1200 miles but oil life is already down to 77 percent. Looks like I'll require an oil change well before needing to top off the DEF.
With 10 years of experience driving my Super Duty my winter mileage was always dropped about 30%. This is in Florida so it doesn't suprise me you have a lower mpg reading. I think it is a combination of both winter fuel and more resistance driving shorter trips.
I never found much of a difference in fuel mpg using different fuels in 179K miles using my SD. Could be my SD isn't that sensitive to it and the new common rail systems with piezoelectric fuel metering injectors with better sensors are.
All I know is that I am excited to get this SFU after following the progress for close to a year...
Questions on Oil:
I was thinking I should have a quart or two of oil handy if I ever need to add some. First place I went was the local Chrysler/Jeep dealer (not the one I bought the SFU from), the guy behind the counter tried to sell me a quart that clearly stated "for gasoline engines" on the front label. When I pushed on the issue he checked again and said they only had the oil for diesels in bulk, not quarts. So off to O'Reilly Auto Parts. Only oil "for gasoline engines". They called a couple different places like Mobil directly, and they had no cross reference for Chrysler MS-11106 called out in the manual. Any recommendations on where to get the correct oil? Makes me wonder about even taking it to the dealer for an oil changes. And forget Jiffy Lube or Rapid Oil, they'll probably try to top off the engine coolant with the wrong stuff as well.
Also, I don't even have 1000 miles yet and the oil life is down to 74%. If it continues at this rate, do I really need to change oil at 4,000 miles or just wait till 10,000?
Same problem down here in sunny Florida. No luck at Advance Auto Parts or Pep Boys. I web searched Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W30 Synthetic and it can be had from a few places. Best price I found was $54.99 for six quarts.
I am also experiencing the same rapid decline of oil life, down to 77% at 1150 miles.
Vtail, try this link. Click on the down arrow that says "Find a product matching a spec" Oil Spec Finder and Comparison Tool - oilspecifications.org We had the same issues finding these boutique oils for our MB Bluetec. It's out there but not everywhere.
You can use the Mobil oil finder to find the recommended choice (Mobil 1 ESP Formula 5W30) for the 2014 JGC Diesel in their vehicle selector tool. Quart bottles are available in PepBoys and Oreilly's for about $12 a bottle.
