What are HD brakes?

Was looking at the options that came with my WK2, and noticed it came with HD brakes. Does anyone know what this option consists of? Are the rotors bigger, different pad compound? Do I need to pay attention if I replace the wheels?

I assume that the HD brakes came with either the diesel or the adventure 2 package.

I ask because I have had issues on other vehicles when doing my brakes.

Re: What are HD brakes?

The sales code is BR6

350mm Vented front rotors
330mm vented rear rotors

normally only found on vehicles equipped with V8 and eco diesel

A vehicle that came with out them can be upfitted as they are all bolt on parts.

For the front you will need the following :

350mm rotor x2
brake caliper bracket X2

Note: Minimum wheel size for this rotor is 18 inches.

For the rear you will need the following:
Left rear caliper x1
right rear caliper x2
rear caliper bracket x2
vented rear rotors x2

Note. this will fit under the 17 inch wheels

Re: What are HD brakes?

Thanks for the info JA. I have the specs for the standard brakes, so the HD setup is indeed significantly bigger.

Std. front = 328mm
Std. rear = 320mm

Re: What are HD brakes?

Likely bigger rotors, because of expected towing with our CRDs?

Re: What are HD brakes?

Just to clarify, is "BRY" the code for standard brakes?

I believe (based on the part number for the recently replaced front rotors) that my Summit has the standard brakes... need to pull a wheel and check/measure when I get a chance. Been trying to find a direct (online) link to deciphering the VIN/Brake Code info...

Thanks for the info so far in this thread - you are all excellent peepz!

Re: What are HD brakes?

Our Overland with the Tow package shows BR6P is the code for our HD brakes.

Re: What are HD brakes?

If you have the 3.6L Pentastar you have standard duty brakes. I don't believe adding a tow or offroad package changes that.

Yup... mine are solid rear rotors... nothing on the sticker about HD brakes.
