What do you tell the dealer

Well, after 5 months I have joined the p20ee club. Do you tell the dealer that you have an OBD2 reader and the Torque app says I have a p20ee or do you remove the reader and play dumb. I don't want them to have an out on fixing the problems. Do they care if I'm using the OBD2?

Only a dishonest dealer would care.

A good dealer might appreciate the help for codes that are intermittent.

I've dealt with dealerships and all they ask is that you don't clear any codes. It helps them diagnose the problem faster and they can use the data to help them. Once you clear the code, the data is gone. Until it happens again of course.

They won't care, and don't delete history. They will replace the DOC catalyst if needed. If you deleted the code, they will have an "out".

FCA wants a reflash done as step 1, which I'm sure changes some settings to hopefully correct P20EE, obviously doesn't. They want this step attempted first because this oxidation catalyst I'm sure costs $2000+ dollars + labor. That's why you see a lot of noise regarding P20EE, the dealership is just following instruction from FCA. If they don't follow repair instruction, may kick dealers warranty claim.

The dealership doesn't care if you looked up the code etc. , back in the day we would be annoyed with people giving us TSB's they would expect us to carry out the repair, like it was a recall, but 75% of the time their VIN wasn't on the TSB anyway; that's how you will upset dealer people, don't tell people how to do their job.

Re: What do you tell the dealer

I had the MIL come on a few weeks back, with no message in the "inbox". When it wouldn't go out, I knew it what it was and what needed to happen - I broke the DEF nozzle a while back, and now the Cat was done. That's pretty much exactly what I told the dealer when I brought it in - I believe the cat needs to be replaced. In 2 hours they called me up and said "yup, the cat needs replacing".

I recognize that they need to go thru the steps, but what I am really trying to do is build credibility. It is in their system on multiple occasions that I thought the problem was X, and it turned out to be X. Maybe possible eventually, when I call in and say "please pre-order part Y, because I'm gonna need it when I bring it in", they may actually think about it having one on site if they don't already...

Re: What do you tell the dealer

I haven't found any dealer upset that I have a Bluetooth OBD2 reader. In fact the dealer in Orlando on East Colonial had their intake people popping on a wireless OBD2 reader just to get an idea of what was going on.

I wish I had their software. I only have engine codes because I have to input my engine as Dodge, Chrysler of Fiat 3.6L. No Jeep option.

If there is Jeep software available now, can you put what it is and where to purchase it?
