What does your dealer charge for an oil change?

Wondering what others are being charged for an oil change at the dealership? I had the first one done over a month ago but because I bought the Jeep there they gave me that one free. They did say it was going to be $170 going forward but this seems awfully steep for a service that doesn't cost more than $60-$70 in parts. Also, they did not let it drain for 30 minutes as I've read that is recommended so not sure I'll be taking back to that specific dealership, though they own all the dealerships in 100 miles so my options may be limited.

Pete,

You don't need an engineering degree to change the oil in your JGC !
There's a great thread on here about DIY oil changes. It will take you no more than an hour (including drainage!) and you will need just basic tools and, if you are anal as I am, a torque wrench.

Parts will cost you around $80.

And it might be a hinderance.

If the parts cost $80, you might as well let a dealer or local garage do it. I think my dealer charges $35. I'm not really sure because the first few they did were free, and the last time I was in the service manager said I had a couple more free ones coming.

When I was young and did my own oil changes (and everyone elses) I seldom let it drain for 30 minutes. The only exception was when I was doing it early in the morning, and around the time I got the plug out my wife yelled, "breakfast is ready".

Re: What does your dealer charge for an oil change?

The only two oils that are approved for the diesel are very hard to locate and run about $10 per qt and the engine takes 8 quarts.
The filter is also not one you'll find at the local Autozone etc and I have heard they run up to $40...

Having said that many of us prefer to do our own basic maintenance and know it's done right.
But if a dealer only charges $40 he's not using the right oil/filter...

I ended up buying a 15 oil change program for about $1000 when I bought the GC that is good at any Jeep dealer so the price is reasonable.

Re: What does your dealer charge for an oil change?

Go to Service Coupons for Jeep®, Chrysler, Dodge, Ram, FIAT | Mopar®, enter your dealer & vehicle info and see what coupons pop up - shows an oil & filter change for $19.95 at my dealer, but they probably will charge for the two additional quarts. I've changed the oil & filter myself so far, so I don't know how much the additional charge would be.

Re: What does your dealer charge for an oil change?

I was quoted $110 for my Ecodiesel at the local dealer. It's not too bad of a price and at 10k mile intervals (I don't go as far).

My mistake. I found the thread under "new post" and didn't realize I was in the diesel forum.

So, if you haven't done so already, ignore everything I've said.

Re: What does your dealer charge for an oil change?

I just had my dealer do my 20,000 mile check...

1) Top off DEF - no charge
2) Front and Rear Diff Service (I do a lot of off-roading/heavy towing) - $262
3) Rotate tires - $10
4) Engine oil/filter change - $98 (dealer says they're doing it below cost)
5) Fuel filters replaced - $121 ( $84 for filters, rest labor)
6) Warranty work - no charge
- reprogram Power Control Module (factory recall)
- reflash Transmission Control Module
- reprogram Body Control
- reprogram Automatic Temperature Control
- reprogram Electronic Limited Slip

Hope this helps.

When I bought mine they quoted me $60. I said I thought it would be around $160. So, I guess that worked in my favor for negotiating 5 free oil changes.

COSTS NOTHING!!!

First 2 years of service are included.

Thought this was standard on new GC Jeeps.
