What shift mode do you prefer: sport, eco off or eco on?

I've been trying different modes and like them all but I think Jeep can tweak these some more to utilize more of the torque band. Eco on seems to give the best mileage. However not sure what mode seems the sportiest. Almost seems like sport mode up shifts too fast where eco off uses more torque and feels peppier at times. Also wish you could enable aero suspension without choosing sport mode.

What do others like for shift modes so far in terms of both mpg and feel of the Jeep?

Normally, we keep ours in Eco mode except when towing, then we turn it off.
I occasionally use Sport around town just to piss off some car owners from the lights !

Re: What shift mode do you prefer: sport, eco off or eco on?

I keep mine in Eco mode all the time, but shift manually at times to avoid the "gear hunting" that sometimes happens with smaller engines in big vehicles.

I like to force it to stay in one gear on long stretches of road where my speed isn't changing so it doesn't always want to downshift to pass or moderately accelerate.

I also sometimes manually shift up under harder acceleration so I can get the power, but not wind it out as far before upshifting. Doing that also prevents the initial quick shift up Eco wants to do, followed by an immediate jump down a couple gears to give me the acceleration. It's a really sloppy way to accelerate. I'd rather it stay in the lower gears as long as I need it to in order to get a good jump off the line.

I noticed that the SRT and the 3.6 recently got some Transmission updates - perhaps ours is due for some tweaking again as well. It shifts very good just think that the 3 modes could be tweaked to vary a bit more on their intention.

I don't have the SRT, but even the Limited could go for a little more variance in the shifting styles of each.

Eco Mode needs to be more Eco. It shifts up pretty well through the first few gears, then hangs a bit on 4, 5 and 6 before quickly getting through 7 and settling in on 8. Eco needs to get through those mid-range gears quicker unless you actually floor it. It also downshifts too often on hills, even when speed can be maintained in a higher gear.

Non-Eco mode doesn't really shift noticeably different other than not getting confused as often when you suddenly press the gas to get around someone or simply speed up. It hangs a little longer on each gear, but we're only talking a couple hundred RPM here. However, it seems to be the most "normalized".

Sport mode does very little with a V6 pulling a 4800 pound vehicle that isn't tuned for it. The SRT would likely have more punch in Sport mode, but it just seems like an excuse to burn more gas on the normal V6.

In short, Eco Mode could go a long way toward being more eco and the Sport Mode really needs a lot of improvement to make better use of the available power. Normal mode seems properly normal.

I have an SRT, I'm pretty much always in sport unless I'm on the highway.

Re: What shift mode do you prefer: sport, eco off or eco on?

I usually have the ECO turned off. I don't use Sport very often as the Diesel doesn't sound as good as a gas V-8 when holding a gear longer.

Have only driven in Eco mode and find it just fine. My Overland goes into Aero Mod at 55 mph which is standard....

Re: What shift mode do you prefer: sport, eco off or eco on?

I prefer eco, but it tends to hunt a bit if I need to stomp on it at 45-50 (usually 8th gear). It is pretty amusing to trundle along at 1200rpm in 8th gear getting 40+ mpg at city speeds.

I get the same mileage with sport/aero mode, but I feel like it hangs onto gears a little too long. Unfortunately manual mode will ignore you if you get on it hard enough, which is especially annoying when passing on the highway.

I pretty much run in sports mode all the time now. No discernible difference in mileage to eco mode, but a lot peppier.

Re: What shift mode do you prefer: sport, eco off or eco on?

It's hard to remember to turn eco mode off all the time, but it seemed like my mileage went up a little bit last summer with eco off.

The flashes they did for all of the recalls in the 2014 model year took care of the shuddering/fish biting many people have reported when travelling at 45-55 MPH when I hit a long upgrade where it normally drops out of 8th gear.

Whacking it into sports mode turns off the eco, so no problem there. Wish there was a way to force sports mode on start up.
