Would the EcoDiesel ever go quad turbo?

BMW is pumping out 394hp and 561 lb-ft out of their new 3.0L six-cylinder turbo diesel -- all while getting 5% better fuel economy and getting the 7 series (which weighs about 400 lbs less than a WK2) to 60 in only 4.5 seconds.

BMW replaces tri-turbo diesel with a quad turbo

If they offered, I wouldn't go for it. Eventually, all Turbos needs to be replaced and they usually start leaking after warranty is over. Quad turbos will add complicated plumbing also.

I had a twin turbo Audi and loved it, but when I replaced Turbos for 7K, it wasn't fun and the car was never the same.

Probably not. BMW never brought the tri-turbo over here because there is no way it would have passed emissions on any level. I'm sure the quad turbo will be better with the emissions, but I believe BMW didn't even bother trying to get the new 7 diesel certified to make it over here.

Re: Would the EcoDiesel ever go quad turbo?

BMW seems to be the only manufacturer (short of racing) that is marketing performance diesels. The new quad turbo is a replacement for the tri-turbo they introduced several years ago. These were outfitted with M badges (not full M cars, but "M Sports") and sold towards the top of the price range. I'm not sure the US consumer would understand the idea of a performance diesel, a few enthusiast buyers would love it, but as a whole it would probably be a sales failure in the US. Especially at the price they'd have to sell.
EcoDiesel SRT perhaps? That's called a Duramax swap
