They can't run 365/24. Marlon has already said they are having equipment problems. Plus they don't have the manpower. How are they gonna add the grand Wagoneer too an already over capacity facility?

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee production heading to Sterling Heights South? Grand Wagoneer

well, I'm thinking that the engineers and bean-counters have to sit down and figure out how to make more widgets without killing the product. We mere mortals won't hear about that until it is just about done.

Sterling Heights South is close enough to JNAP that there could be good synergy, but only if the product mix is right at SHSAP.. while it might be theoretically possible to build both, say, 200s and Durangos there - it might not actually make sense.

My gut feeling, having occasionally talked to people who report directly to Sergio over the past couple of years, is that Sergio isn't going to say "we ARE going to make W's at SHSAP" unless there is already someone whose job is on the line to make that happen and be a success. My gut also says that SHSAP is a possible site, but there is more to be told.. I think Sergio is still flogging his minions with the "how do we make more of these dammit?" question.

And while my gut is ample, it has occasionally been wrong

Fix the equipment, hire more people. Certainly gotta be a lot cheaper and more efficient than re-tooling at a 2nd plant. I'm guessing that the Wagoneer is going to be low-volume, perhaps in quantities like the SRT.

Also, as far as I know, JNAP has not lost any sales due to not being able to keep up with current demand.

Just going by what Marchionne said. "We are losing grand cherokee sales because of capacity at jnap"

Seems to me they are losing more sales due to delays caused by QC issues and supplier shortages than they are by capacity restraints. Of course, he certainly would know a LOT more about what's going on than I would!

LOL.

They are losing sales because they don't wanna pay the money to run JNAP 24/7. Trust me, if they WANTED to, they COULD.

... about that JNAP capacity issue that we were talking about

We're on our way, along with a solution to those other issues!

AFTER JUST VISITING JNAP WEEKEND I WILL SAY THEY ARE JAMMED FULL OF WORK OVER THERE.
Great group of people, it was an honor to be able to drive my Durango thru the plant for all to see.

Jammed full of work? No way. Not even close. Now in the next few weeks? Oh yeah...

Unfortunately when we were there, you were all just recovering from the parts delays from the roads getting flooded.
I appreciate how clean the inside of that plant is.
Good Luck Marlon...Build on my friend

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee production heading to Sterling Heights South? Grand Wagoneer

I've heard through private message (that I received too late) that you guys DID in fact run into me. I was wondering who the heck was running around on those tour carts.

I was wearing a Jeep hat driving around.
