Thumbs up Jeep Grand Cherokee production heading to Sterling Heights South? Grand Wagoneer too?

Ive got several good sources telling me that Jeep will EXPAND Jeep Grand Cherokee production and that could be at the Sterling Heights South plant. The facility will also produce the long expected Grand Wagoneer and could ramp up to 100,000+ unit by mid 2015. The Chrysler 200 is currently produced on the property as well. The plant was just upgraded at a cost of $1 billion.

Then my guess might be the Jefferson plant will be retooled to make the nxt Gen Durango or whatever they create it into...

No....JNAP will still produce at capacity the Grand Cherokee. JNAP is at capacity right now. Not sure the plans for the Durango...but hearing rumors it may switch to a fwd platform same as the minivans and replace the dodge minivan as a crossover. Who knows right now though?

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee production heading to Sterling Heights South? Grand Wagoneer

180,000 Grand Cherokee's last year and 60,000 durangos(up from 42k in 2012) Durango sales are up thanks to the 2014 revisions.....I just think the Grand Cherokee is too profitable for the durangos to continue to be built at JNAP. PLus Jeep REALLY wants that new Grand Wagoneer ASAP for a luxury 3rd row SUV. Maybe they will keep the Durango on the Jeep platform?

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee production heading to Sterling Heights South? Grand Wagoneer

I'd be interested to see how the Durango will co-exist with the "luxury" Wagoneer. I'm guessing it'll be like Nissan Pathfinder (Durango) vs Infinity Q60 (Wagoneer)

Re: Jeep Grand Cherokee production heading to Sterling Heights South? Grand Wagoneer

We were talking about this in another thread.

If they do come up with some crazy plan to make the "W" platform vehicles at SHAP somehow, then there's no reason to cancel the Durango or move it to a different platform. All 3 can then be built but I say leave the Jeeps at home (JNAP) where they belong and send the Durango to SHAP.

The Durango has its market and I personally think it should stick around. The Grand Wagoneer will be so dang expensive that the two will not compete with each other.

...and as of right now, it's a pipe-dream. This plan has NOT been greenlighted *and* they'd STILL need to get rid of the JS robots and tooling first, then install new WK/WD tooling.

There's one scenario I'm thinking about here.

The same thing they do in Belvidere.

UF Body Shop
Since SHAP's new paint shop can paint anything, then there's no need for two paint shops.
WK/WD Body Shop, mirroring JNAP's

Both vehicles joining on carriers that can accommodate both in the T/C/F departments.

Or maybe the opposite? Maybe SHAP's body and paint shops are flexible enough to handle both and a separate area for WK/WD T/C/F.

I'm trying to figure out how this makes financial sense unless they plan on re-using the old JS robots somehow for WK/WD??????

UPDATE:

As of now, we can stop talking about this. It's not happening.

I dunno about most profitable.
They're simply not going to do anything.

Do they NEED to? Plant is not at 100% capacity, right? (24/7 x 365).

It was in a Marchionne interview. The wk2 is the most profitable vehicle for chrysler and jnap cannot build enough because they are already over capacity.
