Re: Test Drove A Renegade Today

The Renegade was created to market into global markets where current Jeep models don't have a large share. These markets include South Africa, Brazil, South America, Mexico, etc...

This is a bold move on Fiat but its global acceptance has been phenomenal. This will help the bottom line and push new development capabilities for all platforms.

I am glad to see its success and I have seen more and more on the road. I remember the Jeep Liberty (first model with round headlights) was considered ugly and would not succeed. Needless to say it did and I even owned a 2004. It was completely capable and I still see many of them on the road (10+ years later).

A close friend of mine test drives cars for a living.
Here's Benjamin Hunting's take on the Renegade for Autobytel:

Re: Test Drove A Renegade Today

My son has been looking a cars etc. I have a JK and he loves it but wanted much better mpgs. We test drove a Renegade. Nice vehicle. A good friend of mine bought one and he is zipping around at 30 mpg average. I liked it just wish it was lifted! It actually is fun to drive.
Anyway my son was all into it and I was thinking about chipping in some just to upgrade to a TH version with roof panels and then... the wheels came off the deal. The salesman mentioned maybe ordering one but it would take a long time because it is built in Italy. That killed the deal for my son. "Jeep is an American Icon, I don't want one built overseas..."
I have to say I don't disparage Jeep for going global... but I do agree with trying to keep buying US built/assembled autos... especially from Jeep.

Re: Test Drove A Renegade Today

My girlfriend and I were at the dealer last weekend and she saw one and asked what it was...I really wasn't sure so I had to look closer. Since my SRT wasn't ready yet, they handed us the keys and said have at it! She drove...here are my thoughts:

MUCH better than the Cherokee (aesthetics-wise IMO)
Gets great gas mileage
A lot of interior space; good rear leg room (I am 6'1" and could sit in the back)
Fun electronics (for the price)
Fun interior
Great functionality (rear cargo, seats, placement of levers etc...)

Personally, I would never own/drive one...but they made them "cute" enough for women, while being functional/multi-use...so I think these will sell well. I am just not rushing back to trade in my SRT in HAHA

GM "might" be moving Buick to China ... nobody said they are. But Buick is one of the most popular vehicles in China.

It is just as likely they are floating the idea during their union negotiations as a bargaining chip.

I'll let this go...heres one link, camery is the most "domestic American made" vehicle with 75% of that vehicle made here..rest is import. Only 10 vehicles meet the made "american made" standards compare to 29 five years ago...so if the guys kid wants American made...he has 10 to choose from. There was a time, we couldnt even park in our parking lot at work with a foreign car...they shouldn't have stopped that...now look where we are at

http://money.cnn.com/gallery/autos/2...american-cars/
Edit...Op...sorry for going off topic

Re: Test Drove A Renegade Today

My wife ordered one 2 weeks ago. She's mostly concerned with driving on NH snowy roads (we'll get winter tires to swap on and off) and having plenty left of room for her golf clubs. Not at the same time necessarily. Still waiting for VIN.
