Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Yeah mate waiting was never a strength but the clincher for me was no diesel in the TH. The 3.2 is smooth and willing and does well enough considering the weight. I'd expect the CRD with the extra torque to kick down a little less on some of coastal NSW rolling highways. I'd like to see the TH with the V6 CRD but don't expect that to happen....

Here's the TH in the Blue Mountains on a gloomy afternoon. It's been tracking a fair bit on its travels with a little rock climbing but no real challenging trails....yet! This is our first Jeep so it's important to learn how to drive off-road correctly. Can you recommend any local clubs/groups, I'm thinking safety in numbers.

Wow, look at that in white. I bet that has garnered a few head-turns. There are not many KL's around at the moment that I have seen (I keep looking but alas... nothing).

We have never joined any 4x4 clubs/groups - sorry, so can't recommend any, however if you pop your head into the Aust Grand Cherokee thread, the guys there might be able to help you in that regard.

Very nice looking vehicle.

Unhappy Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Hey everybody

This morning I jumped in my trailhawk and started up and the instrument panel flashed a warning "Service Park Brake" and the electronic park brake would not disengage. I put it into drive and accelerated slightly which disengaged the brakes - but a warning light remained on in the dash. I have started it and travelled some distance a number of times and the issue is persisting - (little tip if you are having this issue don't park in a tight spot as reversing does not appear to disengage the brake). I googled the problem and haven't really come up with an answer other than it might need a module replaced - as it is Sunday I can't ring the dealer - just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I have not quite reached 2000 km.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I have read (on the jeepcherokeeclub.com forums, which is dedicated to the 2014+ Jeep Cherokee) about strange problems occurring due to fuses not being seated correctly. That may not be the case here, but it's probably worthwhile checking. There are fuses in the engine bay, and in the cabin.

There was nothing I could do to reset it, lock, unlock, hold the tailgate down and lock, I tried looking for sensors or obstructions, nothing. I secured it and drove home, called the dealer at 4:45pm and spoke to service who recommended calling road assist and getting the battery disconnected to trigger a reset.

This fixed the issue and after the initial disappointment of a new car letting me down I'm happy enough that it was easily resolved.

Now I'm carrying a 10mm spanner in the back should I get stuck again
I was just browsing the TSB's to see if there was anything remotely helpful there for Matt's Trailhawk but I couldn't find anything, however I did find this one sFlattop which may help your tailgate issue. Not sure of your build date so it may not apply to you but here it is anyway -

Here's the KL TSB thread as well.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Matt - it could also be a faulty door sensor. The Park Brake will engage automatically if it thinks a door is not closed properly.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I fiddled with the fuses to no avail (although with my vast mechanical background it was a fair effort in identifying the fuse box and getting it open - so I can't yet rule that suggestion out!) - I wonder about the above issue with the tailgate as a few days after I took delivery the remote tailgate access started playing up - it would start to open and then just shut off - the next day it was fine and I just put it down to inclement weather effecting it - it has never done that again (even in the rain). I will ring the dealer first thing in the morning and see how we go. Shame cause I am loving this Jeep!

Thanks mate, yeah it's turned a few heads here and there, probably mostly because it's new and different from any of the usual soft roaders if only they knew what it was capable of!
