Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

200klm round trip to Geelong and back today, approx 8.4l/100 with a great run there with light traffic on the way there and heavy traffic on the way back but freeway all the way.
a false positive on the front collision sensors and collision warning turned off alone at one point and then I hit the button and it came back on ok.
I get these odd glitches but they seem to never be significant other than that one tailgate incident.
Actually speaking of the tailgate It didn't open yesterday when I hit the dash button, I tried the fob as well and I got a double beep, I tried the push button under the tailgate and it opened and closed ok...just another gremlin.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Well, picked up the car this afternoon from Jeep....an interesting experience.

Got there right on 4:30, passed our car at the back of the dealership and parked our old one a few spots down.

Had a quick once over then went inside. Now, our sales guy was off on bereavement leave, and they had a few go sick so we ended up talking to the new car sales manager, who introduced us to the new car/fleet guy who ran us through the basics.

We got the two fobs, and did a brief external inspection. Then it was off we went. So the good things:

* Nobody offering us to buy paint protection/extended warranty.
* Friendly to deal with if not a bit harried due to the staffing.
* The dealer principal came out to congratulate us and said "you should put numberplate surrounds on, it'll look better" - i'd specified not the advertising type, and he went to the trouble of getting a couple (one off his wife's car nearby !) and it does look better

Observations:
* We got the car with 44km on it.
* There was a bit of a smell which seemed to be engine like coming through the vents on our first drive. It's going now.
* The headlights had some mild condensation in them after about 30 minutes of driving.
* The headlights also were - how do i say it - emitting a wispy smoke ? I can only imagine that's due to the lights only being used a few times.
* There sounds like a small rattle with the subwoofer at high bass levels.
* The auto high beams are great
* Loving the memory seats
* Gave auto parking a go - bit scary and you need to practice a few times to get confident...worked a gem.
* ACC is a bit daunting (and remembering which button to press to activate it) at first, but tried it on the Eastern Fwy and it was amazing, as is the lane sense.

I updated the uConnect from 14.05.3 to 14.25.5 - I have one niggle though which I'll put out in the forums also:

I made a phone call out from the uConnect, it rang the phone, then when I went to hang it up, it ended up leaving a 20 minute voicemail message and then basically froze the phone module of uConnect (saying "calling xxxx" and locked me out from everything else on the phone screen). I paired my partner's phone and same issue with phone calls being made out although the phone module works fine.

When installing 14.25.5 it took about 15-20 minutes and had no errors. Not sure if I should go back to a prior version (if you can) or leave it as is - I know there's a newer version floating around but not sure if it's compatible with our KL.

This is with an iPhone 6 on 8.0.2.

Will put up pictures in the morning !

Smell- yes mine had it too as well as the brake pads wearing in, it slowly goes away
Smoking headlights, maybe i had a bit but definitely no moisture, that said my car is garaged at work and home so it only sees rain in Melbournes weather patterns (ie every 2nd day).

auto parking I almost never use as the car is smaller than my last car and a breeze to park, on the few times I have tried it it has a 50% miss rate in finding a parking spot and I end up parking manually. It was better at the start, maybe I need more practice.

I think overall the car is a bit immature in development, the bugs in U connect and similar niggles I have with sensors and my tailgate. It would be difficult to develop an interactive phone kit that works with every phone in the world flawlessly (that said they make a lot of Uconnect units for many models of car) but things like parking sensors etc are bread and butter for car companies. They shouldn't be hard to get right.

Enjoy your new ride, I saw a white TH a few days ago, it looked good with the black decal on the bonnet but I still prefer the Cherry Red.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I'm looking at testing my Samsung S5 while I still have it to see if it does the same thing or not, and maybe rolling back to 14.05.03 if I can get my hands on it...

I read on the 'other' forum that the condensation is standard and will go away in a short while - there are micro holes drilled in there (design standard) - and the smell of leather is taking over the other smells - plus our Lab has had her first ride in there - she was a bit unsure about the new height but she's pretty capable

Pics soon.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Oh ahhh.... The last time I checked the vehicle status thread (last night) the Tonsberg had departed and mine had not been loaded.

I just checked again for something to do, and it turns out it did leave on the Tonsberg. That makes arrival at Port Kembla Nov 1st.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Congrats Paul. Such a good colour! It looks great.

Any chance of a side on pic?

Re: the Kms when you took delivery - Our Grand when we picked it up had 48kms on it - don't really understand but anyway... () Also, headlights and smell issues that you posted about - all normal and resolve themselves as per our experience with the GC.

i-Phone issues I think are well documented. As an example, currently on our Grand, the husbands iPhone pairs well, receives calls fine, makes calls fine and receives texts but cannot send texts (ie: the pre-defined text responses).

My HTC however, has none of those issues.

A disconnect between mobile manufacturers and vehicle manufacturers I think but what can you do? (rhetoric question).

Congrats again and can we expect some weekly updates/thoughts posted as you settle into it? I hope so.

I'm going to live vicariously through you for the next month or so.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I'll take a side shot this afternoon - going to a tinting place in Ringwood to see if it's worthwhile doing it

If the car had 100-150k's on it at delivery i'd be worried, and the smells/condensation/wisps of smoke have gone and understand they're part of it being so new.

The iPhone issue - I have 8.1 Beta 1 which apparently fixes those BT issues, I'm about to find out and test my Samsung with it too. It's an amazing car, and I've already done 2 Park Assist reverse parks (in quiet car parks mind you !). Going up to Healesville tomorrow to see Mum so that'll stretch it's legs
