Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum and new to Jeep.

I upgraded to a KL Jeep Cherokee Limited Diesel a week ago.
The car is good so far, has done 1,200km in a week and I'm overall happy.

A few little niggles, but I'm sure the dealer will get rid of them.

Before the Cherokee I had two Z51 Nissan Muranos, which were good cars, but never trouble free. So after the CVT gearbox was faulty, I decided to get a different car.
Walked into the dealership, had a choice of two different Limited and chose the Crystal Grey one.
The car has also the ventilated seats, which are great.

Cheers
Marc

Welcome to JG Marcimark. Congrats on the KL Limited.

I did notice your post yesterday with regards to the Uconnect software but ran out of time to reply.

Upgrades can be downloaded from this site if you have a site membership of Level 3 or above. Your membership also helps in the ongoing costs of JG which is a wealth of info from members across the world.

What is your current Uconnect version?

Tyre Pressure

Hey guys....

What tyre pressure are you running at the moment ? We've put them all up to 38psi on our Limited - the door badge indicates 33 is best - and I'm not sure which is better for fuel economy, lower or higher ?

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Higher is better for fuel economy but also gives a rougher ride. I would say 33 is the compromise.

For me 36 lbs. works; slightly better mileage, longer lasting tires, better handling, and tolerant ride.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Anyone finding the car is sluggish if you turn a corner and the car drops to 2nd then as you accelerate it moves to 3rd but flat spots? it's like a mismatched ratio where it probably needs to stay in 2nd longer and work harder but changes to 3rd but then doesn't have the guts to move on....

I know there are TSB's for the tranny, I've been holding off until things were quieter at work but it's starting to really annoy me now as there are two ways to get to my house and both involve a corner with an uphill gradient (one is very steep) both paved road(not offroad) and the car underperforms every time on those specific corners. The old turbo diesel Sorento never failed there as the extra torque was sufficient.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I'm not sure if I'm the first one with a Diesel, but I'm happy to report.

The dealer didn't perform as I would have expected, as the centre console was lose, the window tinting guy damaged the front left door panel (inside) and the Uconnect was delivered with the older software.

The console is now fixed, the door trim gets replaced on Thursday and the software was upgraded last night.
I will also update the map later this week.

The car itself presents only minor issues, which need attention down the track:
- front door rattle when music is a little louder or with more bass.
- some metal and plastic panels panels don't have the best fit, but I got told this is normal for a Jeep and I shouldn't compare to German or Japanese cars.
- Some of the untis in the dash seem not 100%, which might lead to cabin noises down the track.
- Gearbox works fine, only sometimes doesn't change down quick enough and then there is a lag when taking off again.
Time will tell, as it is a self learning gearbox.

Uconnect:
The quality of the reverse camera is underwhelming, the ones in the Murano are a lot better, especially in darkness.
It's painful not to be able to use the Nav system while moving, as the voice commands don't work in AUS, at least in my car. (Don't want to start a safety discussion).
It's a shame that we can't have digital radio, which is so much better than the FM stations, at least in my opinion.
I also can't stop the phone transmitting SMS to Uconnect, as it is not possible to change this setting on the Uconnect or the phone (Galaxy Note 3). I find this annoying.

That's all
No mechanical issues and only niggles, as I said earlier.

I hear a lot about the wobble. A little overrated in my opinion, and no, I have not experienced this.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

We have just cleared 1000 km on our new latitude. I have to drive in sport mode as the flat spot in gearing as mentioned above is pretty bad in normal mode. However the speed surge when dropping gears is very annoying. Try this, cruise at 100, then coast down a slight hill to 80, and feel what happens. In my case this is going down a highway towards a speed camera, the car will surge by 5 kmph as it drops gears. It's having a visit to the dealer next week. Add to that the high pitched whine from the underneath after the car is running hot. Happy with the car, and hope these issues can be addressed.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Hello All

Just an update on my situation - the people at Suttons seemed very eager to get to the bottom of the issue so I decided to wait rather than push for a replacement - Enter Pat the Auto Electrician! Pat tells me that they hadn't previously checked the hand brake module as it was on record as being replaced - however - during his investigation he checked that part and discovered that it was packed with a dry lubricant - Pat has worked on Jeeps for some time and recognised straight away that this is not a standard practice for genuine jeep parts/repairs and formed the view that the original part had an attempt to repair it and then been re-installed - hence the continuing failing of the part. I guess two days turn around on a part ordered from the US was indeed too good to be true!

But, as Pat explained, the underlying issue was that the area had been immersed in water and the part is attached to the wiring harness. He went on to explain that the wiring harness acts as a big sponge and draws the water into the wiring which then starts to slowly corrode - the end result being a complete wiring failure at any point between six months to six years (well outside a warranty period)

Pat managed to locate the cause - one of the four drainage points for the panoramic sunroof had not been correctly attached during manufacture which then allowed water to enter the roof cavity and fall into the area that contains the handbrake module.

I did a search on this problem and found some videos of some chryslers with leaking sun roofs - probably too early to tell if this is an issue with the cherokee's but I would recommend, if you have a sunroof, getting your dealer to check it on your next service.

The wiring harness had to be replaced and it took a couple of weeks to get it into australia - attached is an image of the harness (don't like to think what this repair would cost if not covered by warranty!)

Any way after three weeks I have my jeep back and all is well - had forgotten how good this car is!

Not sure if I should lodge a complaint about the first alleged repair/repairer and if so who to but I think they were not at all professional and I definitely would not recommend them to anyone as opposed to the people at Suttons Waitara who were the definition of professional.

A good find at long last and the info will be important to those who have sunroofs.

I would agree with most of your points

My gearbox gripes are well documented in here, I'm waiting for a chance to get the TSB's done which I hope will fix it.
The reverse camera is not the greatest in the dark or in harsh light, as in my case getting out of my steep drive from the garage uphill as the sun hits the display and makes it un-viewable.

do you have a map update? Mine I think is March 2013, I was going to complain to the dealer when I check it in next time, not great for a June 2014 car!
