Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Matt, good to hear from you and I'm so relieved the issue was found at last and finally fixed. Onwards and upwards from here.

Agree.

Our KL has been unloaded from the vessel, so we expect to take delivery in about 10 days or so. Then I can start the comparison tests between between the GC and the KL specifically in regards to the uconnect system.

Good to see Matt that they finally got to the bottom of your problem. My limited hasn't arrived yet but I too have a sunroof and thanks for the tips.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Can you guys tell me what version of Uconnect your KL's are currently on?

I'm just starting to line my ducks up so to speak with the imminent arrival of ours. I'm thinking next weekend might be the date - it is currently in the 'never never land' of Prix Car.

I test drove a KL Limited CRD today (yes finally ) and checked the Uconnect version. It was V14.05.03 with a build date of 07/14.

Our GC is Uconnect V14.22.13. I know I am one behind on that though and have V14.25.5 downloaded - just haven't gotten around to updating the Grand.

At the very least I would expect our 09/14 build KL to have V14.22.13 on it and of course will check prior to taking delivery (as well as that pronunciation TSB if build date is prior). I'm happy with V14.22.13 on the GC - it is very stable so I think that will be my kick-off point for the KL.

There is a map update that came with V14.22.13 which I have downloaded but not uploaded to the Grand yet.

I want to check the Nav version between both vehicles first.

So could you let me know what version of Uconnect you are running and any issues you are experiencing?

I haven't been paying much attention to versions and updates lately because V14.22.13 on the Grand is running sweet but time to start looking at it again with the KL coming.

Thank you.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Hi

I updated mine to 14.25.5 a while ago - name pronunciation on navigation is interesting at times but I'm guessing that this is a TSB issue - the only problems that I have experienced is that occasionally it will stop recognising my USB drive when starting the vehicle - usually you can pull it out and plug it straight back in and on one occasion when that didn't work I plugged the drive back into the computer and added a few songs (which is something I was going to do anyway - it wasn't a plan) and that seems to have stopped the problem so far.

Matt

Matt I had this but found if you wait a minute or 2 it will usually pick up the USB stick, this happens more if you use both the dash USB and centre USB ports for music on sticks (as I do) but usually if you hit the 1<>2 button it will re scan the usb.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

My Uconnect is 14.25.5
I cant remember my maps version but i think it looks like a date stamp that looks like "032013" more or less that is (march 2013), I'll check tomorrow. I've noticed a few times my maps have been a bit dodgy and could use a refresh, if anyone thinks they have 2014 maps please let me know as I will crunch the dealer for an update when I go for my TSB's.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Update on my KL Diesel

The car has now 2,200 km on the clock and has been in the workshop three times.
No, it currently is in the workshop.

First visit after one day, as the centre console wasn't secured, as somebody forgot to use a screw to hold it in place. A cable visible near the gear leaver was also moved.

Second Visit was the 1,000km check up, during which the left front door panel (inside) got replaced, as the window tinting guy damaged it.

Yesterday I heard a noise coming from the engine when starting the car and I thought it must be something caught in the main drive belt, so I revved the engine a little and the noise disappeared.
After driving 15 km on the freeway, a similar noise appeard and then the battery warning light came on. I couldn't stop and drove to the exit to check. The main drive/alternator belt came off and was also damaged/split.

I had to get the car back to the workshop and got picked up by my wife, as it was already after 7.30pm
Today in the morning I got dropped off at the Jeep dealer and they had already looked at the car and were trying to get a replacement belt.
They gave me a KL Sport as a loan car.
By lunch time I got the message that no belt available in Australia!

I got in the car and drove to the dealer, as I am already over the whole Jeep experience, after having many issues with my Nissan Murano including a damaged gearbox.
I suggested taking a belt out of the only other Diesel Cherokee, as I am not prepared to wait weeks for a spare part.
Luckily they found another belt in WA, which should be with the dealer tomorrow.
I got warned about the spare parts issue, but I would never imagined that this would hit me only after 3 weeks.

The car has already developed numerous rattles, one from the storage department on the dashboard and from the seatbelt area on the B pillar.

Not happy is an understatement.

The KL Sport 2.4 I have as a loan vehicle is an OK drive, but very much different to my Limited Diesel.
The gearbox is rough and the car feels like jumping from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd gear. The engine is gutless and needs to get revved.
The interior is very basic and not for me.

The workshop supervisor and I had a good chat and he is aware of the gearbox issues. Apparently they need to be "tought" how to shift properly, which will take a technician around 2 hours. He assured me that the gearboxes are as good as gold, after the procedure was done properly.

Talk to your dealer if you have garbox issues, there is a service bulletin about this or internal information.

The KL comes standard with 14.05.03 and the latest official relase for AUS is 14.25.5
Maps are 2013 and an official update should be available in Feb 15.
Your dealer can log in to Uconnect online and download the latest updates, including maps.
There are ways to get more updated maps into the Uconnect, but I haven't tried it yet, but got the raw map update already.

I can see some issues coming up in regards to build quality, as Jeep uses some cheaper materials and the assembly of the cars is not the same as in Japan or Germany IMO.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Hmmm...

I wouldn't be happy either. Concerning to me that is for sure.

I've had cars with similar stories to yours when new but then been problem free afterwards. Hoping that it gets better for you but please keep us informed of developments...

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

I'm about to buy a new SUV for the wife and have narrowed it down to the CRV, Cherokee and (my preference) a Grand Cherokee.

She was swaying to the CRV and it's taken me a while but i've got to to prefer the Cherokee over it, although i'm still pushing for a GC hehe, we are all aware of Honda's high build quality, reliability etc and she's a practical buyer and that sways her so my problem trying to find out how the baby grand stacks up in that area.

Having a new car sitting at the dealer awaiting parts is extremely poor and if I buy a baby C, and we have these kinds of issues, i'll never hear the end of it (happy wife, happy life and all that ) I know its still early days but to the owners who have had them a while now, whats your thoughts on -

build/parts quality? ie does it appear like the interior is going to develop annoying rattles etc?

Have they worked out the 9 speeder's shift quality? (I wouldn't buy the line about it taking 2 hours for a tech to make it 'learn' marcimark)

real world fuel economy of the V6?

the so called front end wobble? (I drove one of the first ones and it had a front end knocking that simply shouldn't have been there from factory)

Anything else I missed ?

PS, I'm coming from a long history of owning Falcons so am more tolerant on build quality and issue but my wife isn't.

Re: Australian MY14 KL Cherokee thread

Kizz, I can't speak for the KL because I don't have it yet - Pickup hopefully on Wednesday.

However, I can highly recommend the GC.

Thanks mate, I love the GC and if it were a car for me its a no brainer, I wouldn't look at white goods such as the CRV . I'm hoping to borrow the big boy for a day so my wife can drive it around to get a feel for it.

Good move. She will love it I'm sure. I'm always snaffling the WK2 Overland from my husband leaving him with our older WK.

Now with the arrival of the KL next week, I'll be snaffling that for a while and leave him to the Grand although I suspect he'll want the KL for a bit of a play and to put it through its paces as well. Might need to toss a coin each morning.
